I am smitten...

A while back I watched a tribute to The Beatles Live from Abbey Road. There were a number of interesting covers of Beatle tunes; some more successful than others. The one cover that intrigued me was a version of "Because" by Melody Gardot. More recently I listened to Gardot's "Goodnite" from her first album "Worrisome Heat" and was again incredibly impressed by her voice and her "scat".

So I started digging into the internet about this artist and what I've found is inspiring, intriguing, fascinating and amazing. I'm running out of superlatives to describe this woman. I purchased both her albums and found every bit of information I can about her... so yes, I'm smitten.

Read her biography for yourself here:

Melody Gardot

And watch her live in this youtube video. She's playing a beautiful Gibson jazz guitar (the Gibson content) that looks huge compared to her small frame. Remember that this woman only started to play the guitar in 2006 while she was bedridden and relearning to speak. She wrote her first song in that hospital bed ("Some Lessons"). Also remember that she is in constant pain.

PS: the chord progression in "Baby I'm a Fool" is wonderful. I've been playing it over and over on my nylon.

Enjoy.
