Left Handed Casino

hibernation

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I for the first time yesterday tried a Casino and I've fallen in love! I got home all excited only to find that Gibson no longer make left handed models of the Casino and after hours and hours of hunting i can't find even a whiff of one! I was hoping that maybe someone could point me in the right direction?? PLease!!

Thanks

steve

It is a VERY frustrating experience for sure. I've been looking for a lefty Casino for a while and Ebay prices are OUTRAGEOUS !!! [crying]

I decided on an Epi Dot (cherry) based on economic reasons.

It is a fine guitar ... but does not have ther Beatles vibe!!

oh. damn! When you say outrageous! How outrageous are we talking??

The main reason why i would like one is i play country/folk/americana sort of stuff and really loved the crossover of the acoustic and electric tones but if a dot would do that, and at a cheaper price, i'd be a happy soul!

The last Casino on Ebay went for $900 (which included shipping) ](*,) ... The difference between a Dot and a Casino is the Casino is hollow and has P90's and the Dot is semi-hollow and has humbuckers. I've never played a Casino!!

Buy one & do what Paul McCartney did. Pop the nut & put a new one in cut for a lefty.

That had crossed my mind. The only issue i had was would i be rubbing the volume/tone knobs and would a bigsby be able to be fitted that way around??

If I didn't have my Casino, I'd either buy the Peerless Songbird or if funds were more limited I'd buy an Epi Dot and replace the humbuckers with Seymour Duncan Phat Cat's or GFS Mean 90 pickups (P90's in humbucker form).

There is more interest in a lefty Casino now than when I got mine, the continued (and increasing?) popularity of The Beatles in all likelihood the reason. Mine's a 2003 that I bought in 2005 brand-new off Ebay from a New York music store. I was trying to decide between several guitars and weeks went by with the Casino unsold (it was a Buy-It-Now listing) while I made my decision. Seems like it would be easy for Epiphone to made a special run of the regular or Inspired By JL (or both) in a left-handed version.

I just got my cherry Dot and I'm still giving it a good go with the humbuckers .... They actually sound pretty good !!

  • 4 weeks later...

Right, waited and waited for a Casino to come on Ebay and...... £780!! So definitely a Dot for me! I've been looking at the price of a Bigsby though. I think i need a B7 for a semi but was wondering if lefty ones are available and how much would it cost for one to get fitted as they aren't cheap??!!!!!

I just bought a Peerless Songbird from Chandler Guitars (right handed in black). It is a replacement for an old 2003 Peerless Casino I sold a few months back. It kicks the Casino's arse in terms of fit, form, workmanship and sound. It even has a one piece neck! I have a comparison/review here:

Oh yea- Jerry's Lefty Guitars can get you what you need. Just don't go with anything other than what he's got in stock because he'll have to special order the guitar and there are minimums involved.

Hope that helps.
