Joe M Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 All jokes aside, my newly (to me) aquired J45 has a buzz in the B string when played open, when fretted, there is no buzz. To me, that means there is some kind of problem with the nut. I've taken it to 2 different well-respected repair guys in the area and, after tweaking by both of them, have been told that I'm playing too hard, that I'll have to ease off on my strumming. I always use a flat pick and do a little single string picking, almost all strumming. It is true that if I back off on my strumming, you can't hear the buzz, but if I dig in, which I like to do, it's there. Am I just going to have to take their advice or should I find another repair guy (there are plenty in my area)? It just doesn't seem right to me that I have to change my style to get rid of the buzz. Other than that, it's a great guitar; I love the way it plays and sounds.....

EuroAussie Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I would try different string brand, different string gage and different pick weight. If that doesn't work take it to another luthier.
BigKahune Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 . You've probably tried a new string, but if not, and your strings have the 'ball end', check to make sure the ball is tightly held by the string. Is the 'B' string nut slot cut a bit too wide? Is the bottom of your saddle flat against the bottom of the bridge's s saddle slot?
