jannusguy2 Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 1964 Gibson F25 Folksinger. Found one without the flamenco style pick guards. Does not appear to have ever had them as there are no shadows. Just won the auction on Ebay today. Will post pics when I receive it. These things are supposed to be small guitars with huge tone. We shall see!
vincentw Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I believe that model can be strung with either steel or nylon strings.
onewilyfool Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 All I'msaying is....PICS and sound bites!!!! How long a wait til we get pictures??
ksdaddy Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 You can't get another guitar yet. You still haven't shipped me the L-5.
jannusguy2 Posted March 10, 2011 Author Posted March 10, 2011 How long a wait til we get pictures?? Hoping it ships today so, next week sometime.
jannusguy2 Posted March 16, 2011 Author Posted March 16, 2011 Here it is. Just have the 1 pic right now as photobucket is acting up. Nice guitar in great shape but I'm on the fence about it. Mainly because the tone is very similar to guitars i already have. Not sure why I thought it would be very different. Anyway, will let it marinate a day or three and go from there...
BigKahune Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 . Oh yeah. Very sweet. Love the look without the PGs.
jannusguy2 Posted March 16, 2011 Author Posted March 16, 2011 . Oh yeah. Very sweet. Love the look without the PGs. Yeah, I prefer the no pick guard look also. It's hard to find these without them or without the shadows from removed guards. Whomever had this first got them off early so the finish aged evenly. I had to go at it with some naptha and goop off to remove the adhesive residue but it worked pretty well. The checking and the aged binding really look nice on this one. If I keep it I may may put Klusons back on it.
ChrisA83 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Looks sweet - I never would have guessed what model it is! Looks a lot smaller without those PGs
jannusguy2 Posted March 17, 2011 Author Posted March 17, 2011 Easy come, easy go. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190513276254&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:US:1123#ht_500wt_1156
grampa Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Congratulations brother! I have one. It came to me without the "tap plates" but with their shadow and the top had been rather shoddily refinished. It does not look as "nice" as yours but I would not trade mine for anything. Great playing - I prefer the wide neck because of originally being a classical player - and I love the sound. I found mine on a pawn shop in 1982 and it only cost me a Franklin and a half which was half the price of a Gibson at the time that was fairly original. Do not try nylon strings. Some say it's made for both kinds but I don't know why they say that except maybe because of the wide classical neck. It is braced for steel and as such, nylon strings would sound dead and flat. I hope you enjoy yours half as much as I enjoy mine.
