Well, after many years of waiting, wishing, and hoping, I finally managed to get myself a Gibson. I have always drooled over them, and in fact, had only even touched a select few real GIBSON's in my whole life. But this year, I broke down and got me one. Cost $1400 US ,brand new,(I was the first person to take it out of the case since it left the factory)with hardshell case and some $40 straplocks. So far, the only flaws I have found is (and i hate to say this) a CRAPPY joint between the neck and FB, as well as almost INSTANT fading to the gold on the bridge. other than that, i COULDNT BE HAPPIER!!!

Heres some pics!!!

If you look REALLLY close in above pic, you can see the fading on the Low-E(top)of the bridge and stop bar "mount screw".

Sure... no problem.

Heres the side of the neck.....The seam between the neck and the FB itself is just really rough.....its like that all the way down the neck on the thumb side of the neck.... Almost looks like it never got sanded after joining the two components.....or the shelac ran funny or something...... nothing worth returning it over.

all the way to the heel......

As far as the gold hardware fading goes, That is to be expected, all of it will wear off eventually, i just didnt expect it to be gone after 5 practices..... [confused]

I want every new guitar I buy too be kind of perfect, for a while that is,

after all it’s new, out of the box, and I like buying new at times.

(You pay for it). Beautiful gold and wine red, by the way.

The problem with returning it is you might end up with something worse than you had,

But by all means if you find flaws - return it if you can.

The edge of the finger-bd roughness sounds like a finish problem not the joint?

Was it made in 2011?

I agree... i think it is more of a finish thing than the actual joining of the woods......

No, it was made 4/7/10 (at least according to the ppwk that came with it.)

Congrats on your first. Oddly enough (or perhaps not), I have those same two (and only two) issues with my Studio LP. I'm not so much concerned with the faded gold plating (mine has only faded on the top of the bridge, nearest my stomach - but that's because I pivot my hand there).

On my FB, the fret markers have some bubbling/chipping over almost each of them. It's like an additional drop of lacquer or finish had been dropped over each dot and then smoothed out....only to years later, start to dry out and chip off. They're small, but noticeable. Honestly, if I cared to take it to a luthier, it could probably be fixed no problem. It's not really worth the trouble to me though.

Anway, nice looking LP there.

As shown in the photo, which is slightly sunken area is connected to the finish and not to the structure of the instrument.

You can also see that has a very light finish for even nitro laquer in some areas takes the form of grain mahogany, and is due to the thickness of the finish is very thin. This I like a lot personally, for two reasons. The first is that the instrument looks more natural than artificial, and you can feel the wood near of the fingers and the second is that with less laquer better sound.

Anyway, if this bothers you, is easily repaired when dealing with nitro laquer.

Nice guitar¡¡¡

Hey, that looks just like MY guitar ! Congrats man; I think you'll love it. I've owned 5 Studios and think that they are the best bargain in a Les Paul.

Don't take this the wrong way but you could of gotten a better looking studio or a deluxe studio from Guitar Center. Don't get me wrong it's a beautiful guitar but you could have gotten more for your $1400.

NONE of the GC's in my state had one in stock, and I am NOT going to buy a guitar for that much money without seeing and playing it first..... I knew it had the flaw when I got it, and it didnt slow me down..... bought it anyways.... I just am kind of surprised that for that kind of money you could find ANY flaw. I still love my Gibson, and ONLY a Gibson is good enough!!!!!

It's possible that if the neck had binding (Standard, Classic, Classic Antique, Custom, etc.) the binding would cover the finish flaws. Just a thought. You get what you pay for, but it's still a beautiful guitar. [thumbup]

I also just bought my first Gibson LP. It's a Studio with the fireburst cherry finish. I did see other studios that had the same finishing problem on top of the neck as you showed. If you love the feel of it, I wouldn't exchange it. From what I saw it is just a finishing flaw. I tried lots of LPs before I found one that fits like a glove. You couldn't pry it of my hands now.
