I was think of what type of guitars to get and trick out with pickups. The following are the 3 guitars (please recommend any better)

  • Fender Stratocaster or Gibson ES 345
  • Gibson Les Paul Classic
  • Gibson EDS-1275 (double-neck SG)

Now help me with this:

On the Fender/Gibson ES, I was thinking some pickups that are good for low-gain, clean playing.

For the Gibson LP, I was thinking some semi-high output EMGs or some Seymour Duncans.

Now for the double neck, I'm looking for some pickups with some meaty, thick sounds for rhythm on the 12 string and some medium-gain/high-gain overdrive pickups (like stock ones) that can give me good cleans but great hard rock sounds.

I'm not a metal type of guy so nothing really high output for Metallica stuff. Please recommend other pickups or guitars.

it sounds like a fun project and you do have a description, but really, it may require getting more detailed in order for someone to have a responce.

i used to experiment a lot with strats especially the pickups, and i am of the thought that the vintage specs are the best specs. at the same time, i think it is true that there is such a thing as guitar and amp matching.

the choices you have asked about are extremely varied and really have almost nothing to do with each other. is this to achieve a certain goal or is it more of a learning experience?

Well that was really the point. I was thinking of the Les Paul for hard rock, the Strat/345 for blues and jazz, and the Gibson EDS-1275 for rhythm and some mean soloing and everything between.

All I will add to what has already been mentioned is get to know the ceramics on the Classic before you ddecide to swap-out p-ups.

I have a pair of Classics - one stock and one with S-D Antiquities - and the stock-equipped one sounds a lot better IMO.
