Got my first acoustic last week and Im thinking about what strings I should get.

I'll be putting them opn at the end of the month so I can still experiment with what I have.

Right now the stock strings are on the guitar. They put Godin HD strings at 12 gauge.

dunno what to get. [confused]

Ordered 2x3 sets of Gibson Masterbuilt Premium yesterday. .011 - .052 and. 012 - .053.

Remember writing Gibson Service Europe to ask them what was on when I got my J-45 last summer, just to be sure I could find back.

They sounded good and now is the time.

The 12's will go on the 45, the 11's will make their way to the oldies. As a start anyway – maybe the 66 C&W calls for 12's as well.

What's the guitar? Is it a dreadnought? Godin..... hmmm, is it a Seagull? Cedar top by any chance? It's really an individual choice. What kind of sound are you looking for? Big throatier sound? Brighter tone? What kind of music are you planning on playing?

Exactly what Gilliangirl said - give us some idea of the guitar.

But for me these days its pretty clear, DR Sunbeams for mahogany b/s guitars and Daddario PB's for the rosewood SWD.

Just keep in mind that the guitar was set up for 12s, and that the intonation will likely be affected with a different gauge. It can become particularly problematical if you use a capo. I thought my A & L dread was defective until I figured out that my mistake was using 11s. Personally, I think any high-quality phosphor bronze string set will work well, especially when brand new.

I love string threads ! Gibson J200 strings are my favorite, I am going to try 12s on my j45 I am pretty sure it came with 11s from the custom shop.
