Traditional Pro - I broke down...

I am a strat loyalist through and through... But have always a certain draw to the Gibson that could not be ignored. After a playing Traditional Pro last week, I snapped! Now my whole guitar world view had been turned upside down. At least this type of turmoil is pure delight. I'm in heaven playing this thing. Thanks Gibson! Im ready to concede #1 status yet, but its going to be a lifelong battle. I feel fortunate and blessed that Strat v. LP is the biggest problem I face in the morning.

I am feeling you. Lately, the LP and the Special have been getting all the attention. It all started when I got the Special and rewired with p-90's, and although I absolutely loved the sound, I had been so used to and familiar with the strat I was practically unable to use it playing with others because I don't have the experience of knowing all the sounds and such, GREAT as it was. It is a whole different animal.

Now that I am not playing much or with anyone, I find myself just enthralled with the tones and colors that are in the p-90's. I can't seem to put it down.

There is so much inside the gibsons to explore that are not in the strats. The discovery of something equal but yet different is addicting.

it doesn't have to be a G "vs." F issue as so many people have made it.......I also think that G&F corps. like to keep the "friendly competition" going because it increases sales for both.

I fell into the mindset a long time ago........but then after 30 yrs of playing Gibsons I bought a Telecaster, and the secrets of life were revealed to me..

now I also have an Amer. Dlx. Strat as well.....and I absolutely LOVE it !!

do I love my Gibbys/Epis any less? not at all !

but having BOTH has just given me more to love......

Welcome to the "darkside"....and congrats!

Congrats!

I've always thought that one should have some kind of LP and some kind of strat in their toolbox. So much of modern music is based on the tones of one or the other. It's like havin a hammer and a screwdriver. They can kind of do each other's jobs in a pinch but it's never quite right. All the stuff that came after... well, a file and a socket wrnech are good to have but much much more specialized.

I'm kind of the other way around though. Just got my first strat recently. It's not going to be my go-to tone/guitar, but I sure was mighty impressed at how well it does the things it's good for.

It's not a fight to know which is the absolute better one, enjoy your traditional, but I am quite sure that you will come back to your strat sooner or later. Both have something special, and after a while of the fat round tone, you might want to go to that sweet nasal sound of a good fender or maybe just feel that after all, the coutour body feels the most natural. I have two strat type guitars, a les paul tribute with p-90s, and just recently got an 17 year old Ibanez semi-acoustic, which is the one I play most often now, because it is the new kid in town. It is just nice to have a choice.

Have fun!
