HDdeuce
Hi forum-folk. Been enjoying the 200 studio ALOT! Finally got around to plugging in it and I have yet to find any setting on its fishman pickup that sounds like I want-natural, but amplified. Does anyone have suggestions? Do yu guys like the fishman? BTW, is there already a forum that talks about pickups..particularly the ellipse aura? I don't want to be unnecessarily repetitive. FYI: using an Ultrasound ds4 amp...got it because old amp's effects quit and I like some reverb and on occasion will use chorus...thanks for any info. EuroAussie
Well, i use something similar in that I have a fishman in all my guitars (either matrix infinity or Prefix Pro) and i run them through a fishman aura spectrum. It has a few more options but it should basically be the same as the band as it would be specifically with J-200 images. Surprised you were not able to find an image that fits the J-200 but have to say my experience has been very positive with fishman aura technology. I normally run it through my marshall as100d amp or house pa for the bigger shows.
Danner
The Fishman Aura is actually the guitar preamplifier with DSP for studio mic modeling to alter the sound in a pleasing way. It can be used with several different pickups, including the Fishman Matrix Infinity under saddle, as well as LR Baggs and others. Personally, if what you are asking about is the pick-up itself, I much prefer the K&K Pure Mini pick-up to the Fishman and Baggs units. But, it's a personal choice for sure. But, if you are asking does the Fishman Aura system sound good? Then yes, you will find many who like it's sound. At the end of the day, none of the signal modifying systems sound as good as a quality microphone (or two) out in front of the guitar.
HDdeuce
thank you to the two that responded to my questions. I'll keep experimenting with adjustments on the Fishman. I was referring to the whole pickup device, not just the "pup" or whatever the actual transducer is...but maybe that particular piece is something to consider... .S\ Something Fringe Lunatic has attached is "if you don't like the sound of yur guitar get a new amp"-maybe the Ultrasound ds4 is NOT the amp I thought it would be. The reviews I read led me to believe it was a good choice, but maybe it wasn't! My old amp is a Crate acoustic amp that I had been pleased with until the special effects went out. It's out at church were I play every week...with the Ovation (hope that's not a 'dirty word' in this forum...I think I'll swap them out and see how the J sounds through it. I have to use a multi-effects pedal with it (the amp), but the pedal has some disadvantages that self contained effects in the ultrasound amp overcomes-like varying volume with different effects...I'll eventually be using the J200 at church also, but am still 'experimenting' with it at home until I find the sound I want. BTW, ever since the 200 came to me, I've left it tuned down a whole step (in D)...really like the sound. I don't know if that would have something to do with the amplfied sound I'm getting... Anyhow, thanks again for your responses. EA-congrats on the newest purchase!!!! (Also, after all the posts regarding the finish error on purecountry's new purchase, I was glad to see my 'studio' looked GREAT..sorry for him tho', disappointed that someone (Gibson or dealer) hasn't offered to take care of it...) sjl200
You mentioned the Ellipse Aura IF that is what your 200 has then it should have come with a usb plug so you can down load various 200 models using different microphones into the unit from the included software CD :Image Gallery There are many 200 models to chose from in the Gallery. If you do not have a disk then contact Fishman. It could be the amp. I run my 200 with the Matrix through the Aura 16 and then a Fishman SA220 I like it. If I want delay or chorus I use the respective Fishman AFX. I have found that keeping to one manufacture lessens the compatibility issues. Of course one must like what the end product is. It works for me, your mileage may very.
