tartanbeastie
many years ago i saw a cymbal with what appeared to be small rivets through it, all the way round which vibrated when the cymbal was struck.. I cant for the life of me remember the correct name of this type of cymbal. Anyone know?

Southpaw
Oh man! I coulda come up with a good one too, huh? Yup, that is not a joke. I'm a drummer and one of my prized possessions is my dads 1967 (huge) 24" Zildjian ride sizzle cymbal. When I was young I thought it was goofy sounding. It took quite a few years until I appreciated its sound. It's funny how opinions change the older you get.

TommyK
+1 on the 'Sizzle' I've seen it done with about a foot of ball chain. You know, the kind that hangs from a pull chain light bulb? Don't know if it was sold for the purpose, or homebrew, but it worked. Now-a-days, they've got more kinds of cymbals than you can shake a stick at. Some inverted, semi-inverted, various and sundry hammerings and dimplings to give them a different voice. Truth be told I haven't seen a sizzle cymbal in years.
