J-45 indentification

Hey guys,

I've bought myself a J-45 the other day, but I cant seem to figure out what model (standard, TV) it is.

The label inside the guitar is not present, and according to the serial number (03499013)it was build in '09.

I found a site that has some pictures of the precise model that I have: http://www.sheltonsguitars.com

This site says something about it being a 50's reissue, but I cant find any other info on the guitar. Ofcourse, I do wonder what it might be worth and if I got myself a great deal here or not so much :) Any idea's?

It's neither a Standard nor a TV, but a limited edition. Gibson does lots of these. Can't tell you anything about this particular one -- your best bet might be to contact Bozeman.

Yeah, it seems a bit.. different ;) A late 50's reissue sounds quite right though looking at the shape of the pickguard, the sunburst tone and the Kluson tuners.

After some hardcore clicking i found the email address and send an email asking for some additional info on the guitar. When I get a reply I'll share it here.. maybe someone else can use the information as well.

I wouldn't worry too much about what it is ... except that the guitar is FANTASTIC! What a stunner.

its a 50s Tri-burst. I saw them on Fullers web site once. You got a beauty.

I owned that tri-burst in the photo. Purchased from Shelton's. A good internet re-seller to deal with, btw. He explained

to me that he gets much of his stock from authorized Gibson dealers who need to move stock from their store (this might

be supported by the high inventory demands Gibson places on it's dealers).

Shelton told me it was a limited run commisioned by "a dealer".That guitar was as light as a feather. Lightest '45 & lightest guitar I've ever owned. Custom Shop guitar. The sound, while a bit Martin-like, & gorgeous to look at,was not much in the low-end grunt dept.

You can email Gibson customer svc. w/ the serial #. Let us know what they tell you.

While the guys over at gibson are looking into my question I realized I made a mistake. The version I posted earlier is nothing like what I have <_< . Though the klusons and the pickguard are the same, I realized the bridge I have is a adjustable one. When I got home I checked out the sunburst colors and boy, was I wrong! I think mine should be described as being a honeyburst. I've done myself a favor and uploaded some images of the actual guitar. So, round nr 2: what can you make out of this one?

I still love the sound of it, its light as a feather and plays great. No regrets whatsoever, but i'm still curious to find out more about her :)

I got my answer, apparently I got myself a J-45 60's replica/reissue that was build for the Japanese market, but was shipped elsewhere as well.

The specs I got from Gibson are these:

  • Sitka Spruce top
  • Mahogany back, sides and neck
  • Indian Rosewood fingerboard and bridge
  • MOP dots with no dot on the 17th fret
  • Adjustable bridge
  • Cherry Sunburst top
  • Unitone back, sides and neck

Still not sure on a listing price, I have a hard time finding some good google results. I did run into this one, and if that price is somewhat decent I think I got myself an ok deal: Gbase.

Your guitar is still a killer! I don't think there is a guitar that looks better or sounds better than a J-45.

I have two and once had three. I am tempted again!
