Shnate McDuanus
Awesome! It's always good to see someone have a good experience with a guitar. A lot of people seem to complain about SGs not being able to do metal, but as you well know they're definitely more than suitable for it--especially with the right amp settings, which is where I think a lot of people tend to go wrong, and then blame it on the guitar instead of the rest of their gear. Congrats to you for being happy with your guitar. SGs rule! I know that I've been able to get a pretty good sludge metal/doom metal/stoner rock tone with my SG Special Faded and my friend's Roland Micro Cube, which is outstanding to me because it's such a cheap amp. I just use the Recto mode with the gain all the way up, and the neck pickup with the tone rolled back a bit, and it sounds very thick and sludgy (and I mean that in the best way possible.) Turn on the phaser a bit and I get a very workable Dave Chandler-esque lead tone which I think sounds just awesome, especially with the bridge pickup. Tell us, what sort of stuff do you like to play? Are you more into classic 70s/80s stuff or do you play more along the lines of modern, high-gain extreme metal? I'm just curious because I've done both with an SG and been very pleased with the tones I've gotten in general.
steve.taylorjr
well I do have pics, which I'll upload here in a bit, and secondly, I have a Marshall DFX250 that I've had for about 4 years now(which I'm not happy with) and I stomp on the Boss MetalCore, Blues Driver, and of course my Crybaby 535, and I can honestly say, when i play clean my amp is unbelievable, when I play blues I don't need my Blues Driver, but when I play metal I prefer to have it tubed up but it works for now. I play Deep Purple, Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, all kinds of metal, and I get bored playing it for long periods of time, so I'll go Jimmy Buffett route and around those genres. Hey, weird, but i love all kinds of music man. It's all playable. Know what I mean?

SG FAN
The SG was part of the reason Iommi's sound was so heavy. Face it, if it wasn't for the SG we wouldn't have heavy metal as we know it today. BTW, 61 reissues are sweet guitars, congrats!
steve.taylorjr
i will definitely agree with you, he actually played down a step to make it easier to press on the frets because he cut his fingers off to the first knuckle. It was an easily managable guitar for him. Love iommi
SG FAN
The weird thing is that Tony didn't tune down until Masters of Reality. Nice guitar, I'm a Standard man myself, but I dig those 61s, too!
