Remember that "Friday" video?

Howdy gang, good to be back. First off I hope everyone is having a great long weekend.

O.k here goes my rant; would people please cut that poor kid Rebecca Black a break? All I see everywhere are anti-bullying campaigns, then when she puts her song out there she gets flamed to a char.

Think about it; when any of us posts a new song or riff or piece the first thing we all say is "be kind" or "positive criticisms accepted." Great, and we're mostly grown adults.

It wasn't the kids fault the song was terrible, she didn't write it, it was intended for some drugged out "real housewife of wherever" to buy and market. Her father bought the stupid song and allowed the Ark Media group to put it out there.

I guess I'm just sympathetic to how the kid feels when putting yourself out there is hard enough when it comes to music. If we all want to continue posting our music looking for positive feedback we should really consider where else we're putting our negative stuff too.

Nobody in their right minds who is a fully grown adult would openly mock a 13 year old girl in public, but on the internet I guess it makes a lot of people feel like big tough guys.

Also this isn't aimed at anyone at all just something that was bothering me. Figure I'd put some good karma out there today.

I just dont find the song logical. "yesterday was thursday, today is friday, tomorrow is saturday, sunday comes afterwards..."

??? [confused] the lyrics have no meaning, Its great that its friday, but to write a song and get it published is a little to much aint it?

the music video makes no sense. What 13yo owns a convertible, AND DRIVES IT? what kind of parent would let their 13yo kid

go to multiple parties on ONE friday? I just find it odd.

Like I said, she didn't write it. From what I've read the guy doing the freestyle rap in the middle is the writer. Her dad just bought the rights to it.

That's the price you pay for putting it out there. Some where along the line, somebody had to comment that she wasn't that good before it was posted. She got what she wanted, her 15 minutes of fame.

Amen!

I find it perfectly logical that if today is Friday then , logicly, yesterday MUST have been Thursday. We may then deduce that tomorrow will be Saturday which will be followed by Sunday.

I so excited!

Come on Rocky we were all 13 once and did something we were proud of that probably sucked. That didn't stop our parents from being proud of us but it also wasn't on the internet.

The sad thing is we've had two recent suicides due to "cyber-bullying" and those kids had far less exposure to the public en masse than Miss Black.

I'm just saying as musicians we shouldn't throw stones when we've all got embarrassing stuff we've recorded.

Agreed?

I'm 42 and pretty much everything I'm proud of still sucks.

Here in lies my issue with her and every other teen Sensation, Her Dad Bought her a hit single. Most dads buy their kids a car to go to college with, or a guitar to learn music on. "Here's a song for Christamas, honey. I also have a few thousand dollars worth of studio time so you can record it, then my Squash partner will play it on MTV".

For a guy that prefers to hear about Lightening Hopkins Pork Chop sandwiches and Beer by the Bucket in the studio with one mic.....I think you can see where I'm going with this. Used to be Holly Hobby Easy Bake Ovens, now it's Holly Hobby Easy Recorder Hit Makers for the super wealthy and we have to listen to them and pretend it legitimate art?!?! No Thank You!

I don't think a lot of these father's intentions are about the "art" of it when they do this. I really think they're hoping their kid becomes a cash cow, which is why you see a few child "stars" sue their parents when they become old enough to realize this (and why mommy and daddy become their business manager/agent).

Spot on, Jeff. Her father should have known better than to put that out there. My point was it's not entirely the kids fault. If she wasn't being used as a cash cow then someone should have said stop at one point or another. Like I've said before don't treat the symptom (songs turned out of music mills like "Friday") treat the cause of the disease (media groups like Ark Media).

That's why I used the word "Pretend".

Personally I think the jokes and flaming are a natural result of people seeing the reality of these "cookie cutter" pop attempts. Your average music consumer doesn't think past the performer so their frustrations will come out pointed at the performer. We can't expect people to make jokes about her money hungry father, they don't think that far.

And, we can't feel sorry for any entertainer of any age that can't handle the negatives. If a 13 year old made it to the Big Leagues in Baseball she'd have to be able to hit Fastballs as well as Inside Curves. Can't use Kid Gloves because someone threw their daughter into a serious market they weren't ready for, that lowers the bar, allowing adults to be mediocre along with the kids.

You have a point, as usual FM [thumbup] but I guess my frustration here is that people seemed to flame her far worse than say Kim Zolciak ("Real" "Housewives" of Atlanta "Star") who is an adult and decided to be a cookie cutter pay to play "singer".

These are the kind of people we should turn into toast so that they never get the urge to "perform" ever again. Not kids, they still have a chance to smarten up, write their own songs and music and be productive like many of us are.

She deserves every bit of it for putting it out there. This girl is 13 and has made tens of thousands from selling the Mp3, and hundreds of thousands from selling ad space on youtube. If she was sensitive about it, she would have taken it down when 980 of the first 1000 hit the dislike button. Every time somebody bags on her, shes rakin' in more $ on ads and laughing all the way to the bank.

Yea ok she didnt write it but whoever did and whoever directed the video clearly was lacking some logic..."Kickin’ in the front seat,Sittin’ in the back seat,Gotta make my mind up,Which seat can I take?"...If you look in the video there was clearly only one seat she could take, doesn't add up and after a while the song is irratating, ok we get it its Friday.

I'd just say its a shame that she had to be the face of what is a terrible song. And right she doesnt deserve the bullying but some more thought into the song lyrics should have occurred
