UnGauGeD
I was introduced to a Gibson Les Paul Custom made in 1970 today by my guitar shop. Played really well and loved they look of it as it's really beat up. No visible serious damage though except for the usual paint finish had faded away. He was asking for about US$3400. Looks something like this but in a more "relic" shape. No cracks but the decal on the headstock has turned almost bronze and lots of dings everywhere. Checked the serial number and it's made in 1970. Any way I can check it's authenticity? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/VINTAGE-EARLY-1970-s-GIBSON-USA-LES-PAUL-CUSTOM_W0QQitemZ200251865302QQihZ010QQcategoryZ118985QQcmdZViewItem I'm tempted to buy it as it's rare to get early Gibson's like this in my country. FennRx
in the states, that price is a little high for "relic" condition

I would say its worth it for below $2500.... Gibson les paul customs are incredible guitars.... The wood in them ages very nicely... You can find a 1970's or 1980's custom for under $2500... A LP custom with a recent fret job is even better.... there is a reason why LP customs typically build up fret wear over time... I hate to brag.. but I bought a used 99 LP custom last month for $1500.... Pure luck I was able to land that one...
stymye
from past sales I've seen lately that asking price is kinda high especially for a beat up one, but if you really like it , go for it. (I only buy used guitars myself)
deepblue
Just an observation fellas... Look where the neck tenon comes into the body. Its like its been sliced flush. It doesnt extend into the neck pickup cavity...is this normal?
nolongermike@gibson
Sounds higher than I would pay for it, I'm thinking more $2k to $2500 if its banged up looking. As for the neck tenon, some years they were shorter than others, but I don't have the absolute blow by blow on hand at the moment to say exactly which years where which. HeadCase
The price... man, that is way high if you ask me. You can probably get a new one for that kind of money and relic it on your own. I'd walk away, but then again I don't have to go far to find great Gibsons new or old. Hey Mike@gibson.... I just noticed the 5 LP signatures in your signature. How cool is that!? Nice collection too BTW!
UnGauGeD
Thanks for all the advise. Sucks being where I am.... Vintage Les Paul's are hard to find here! And eBay doesn't help much for such stuff as authenticity can't be inspected.
