Riverside Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 When I was a young man in the Army, way back when in the '70s, the military "package store" in Germany sold bottles of whiskey, rum, and something else (vodka, gin?) that had been seized from Rommel's Afrika Corps in the 40s. As I recall, they were in brightly colored bottles (blue, red, green), sealed with cork. Kind of nasty, kind of cheap. Probably not the same at all.
BT Bob Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Mmmmm, let me know when your bottle arrives OWF, and I'll be over to help you out with it ;) Also, of course, the magic words "cask-strength" mean it will be considerably stronger than "ordinary" bottled whisky - anything up to around 65% ABV as opposed to about 40% ABV..... Excellent!

Riverside Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 The problem is finding a 70 year old can of Mountain Dew to mix it with. Eewww! I used to work with a retired Federal Agent who drank gin mixed with diet pepsi...

Wayne Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Back in 75 I bought a bottle of Hotel Muehlebach Bourbon from a friend, who stole it from his dad's liquor stash. It was 47 years old including aging, dating it to 1928. I paid $5. It was the smoothest whiskey my teenaged lips had every tasted. Absolutely delicious and smooth. Funny that dates it to Prohibition though...maybe it was only 37 years old, but I remember 47. Either way, it would be as old as this Scotch bottle. I talked him out of another bottle, planning to save the empty bottle for posterity. It was pretty cool with a picture of the Hotel Muehlebach on it. But after drinking too much I fell down and....well....bye bye bottle I should never have opened it...wonder what it would be worth today?
vincentw Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I'm just an hour's drive in the country to our neighboring city Lynchburg, where I have access to a variety of premium JD not available in stores.
