I didn't realize they had ADJ bridges back in '56?

Just researched it and apparently the 160 introduced the ADJ to the Gibson lineup. Also suprised to learn it has a laminated top and ladder bracing apparently in an effort to reduce feedback. Book $ is as he states.

They sure did have the laminated top back then. They don't anymore, they have solid tops. That said the Lennon models DO have the laminated top and ladder bracing because they are spot-on replicas of John's guitar.

I have a 160E. I did a mod on mine to make it actually usable as an acoustic guitar plugged in at a gig. I didn't want to get rid of the P-100 it came with (mine is from 1994). I didn't want to decommission that pickup, and I didn't want a cosmetic change. So, we replaced the tone knob with a blend knob with a center notch. That knob connects to both the P-100 and a B-Band pickup system. The B-Band has a sound board contact mike and an under the saddle piezo pickup. It has its own volume wheel and blend wheel, which sit inside the guitar just up on the top side of the sound hole, out of site. I can combine the two B-Band pickups to get the perfect acoustic sound plugged into an amp, but I can then blend the P-100 in with it if I want. If I turn the blend (formerly tone) knob all the way in one direction, its just the P-100. If I turn it all the way the other direction, it becomes just the B-Band system. Put in the notched center, its both the P-100 and the blend of B-Band pickups. This took my J160E from the least usable acoustic guitar in my collection to the most versatile acoustic guitar pickup system I've ever had.

It took me and a good ol'boy redneck guitar repair pal of mine from rural Northern California, sitting at the bar with a cocktail napkin and a borrowed pen, about 15 minutes to map out how to do this, after I had inquired with some of what were supposed to be the best minds out there on how to solve my problem of wanting to keep the P-100 completely usable but still make it sound like a proper plugged in acoustic guitar.
