rawpowerocks Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Can anybody help. I want to put Corian Nuts onto all of my Les Paul Standards. The problem is I don't know where to buy them from. Ideally I would like a pre cut one. If anybody knows where I can buy some from please let me know! Cheers Gavin
Tim Plains Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Why would you want to do that? They come with corian nuts from the factory.
DoubleSixx Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Like Time said why would you want a corian nut ? The following isn't pre-cut : http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Nuts,_saddles/String_nuts.html Some Gibson O.E.M. nuts, plus various others : ebay
rawpowerocks Posted September 19, 2008 Author Posted September 19, 2008 Well on the specs sheet for a Les Paul Standard it says that the nuts are moulded. It dosen't say they are made from Corian. If they are made from Corian is the Gibson spare part PRNT-010: Electric Guitar Plastic Nut - 1 5/8" Pre-Cut Made from Corian. I think that the normal Gibson are just plastic and the Customs are made from Corian. I have only just started looking into this so any advise is cool. Cheers Gavin
MikeRom Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 I can certainly see why you'de want to put a properly cut nut on, regardless of the type of material.
Tim Plains Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 rawpowerocks, I emailed Gibson a while ago and asked what material they used. When I asked, I listed my guitars, one of which is a 2006 LP Standard. They wrote: Thanks for the email. These models do indeed have a Corian nut. Most Gibson acoustics have a bone nut, but electrics use Corian. Thanks again!!
rawpowerocks Posted September 19, 2008 Author Posted September 19, 2008 Ok so judgeing on that last reply with the email from Gibson. If I buy the Gibson spare nut part PRNT-010: Electric Guitar Plastic Nut - 1 5/8" Pre-Cut That should actually be made of Corian?
DoubleSixx Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 I don't know if you saw, but in the ebay link I posted there was the exact part you wanted : http://cgi.ebay.com/Genuine-GIBSON-REPLACEMENT-NUT-LES-PAUL-SG-PreCut-PURE_W0QQitemZ350099361423QQihZ022QQcategoryZ85856QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Although most people favor bone nuts I don't think there are many out there that are pre-cut. I think what we're all forgetting to tell rawpowerocks is Corian Nuts are famous for tuning problems. Seems to be hit or miss if you get a good one or not. Good luck.
Guitarooster52 Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Corian .... Chink as in strings binding. I'm certainly not a fan. Sooner or later, the Corian nuts go and a bone takes their place. .....that just didn't sound right did it?~!
daveinspain Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Do you know how many corians they have to kill to make one nut?? I would think twice...

Cheers Gavin Corian is the registered trademark of one of many building materials collectively known as solid surface and is composed of acrylic polymer and alumina trihydrate made by DuPont. It is said to be a thermosetting plastic.
Guitar slinger Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 I believe you have a Gibson Raw Power. We are really needing some pictures of that guitar. Most folks don't even know of her existence.
