ovi_turcu Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Hello! My name is Ovidiu Turcu, I'm the owner of a Gibson SG Faded. I noticed that after an year of use, the strings started to brake at the bridge. The .26 gauge D string is mainly the problem, and also the A string. In the last month I changed 6 sets of strings!!!! My colleague has a Les Paul standard, and it has the same problem. What can we do? I've heard about roller tune-o-matic bridges. Are they the solution to our problem? Thanks! Ovidiu
nolongermike@gibson Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Perhaps they just need a gentle filing to round off a rough edge that is causing the breaking?
twon Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Maybe your saddle is set to low and the strings under to much stress?
lous1952 Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Get a set of Graph-Tech saddles, you won't break strings on the bridge anymore.
nolongermike@gibson Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Hey lous1952, that SG on the left looks like mine. What year is that thing?
Jimbo Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Have you adjusted the height of your bridge or stop bar recently? I started getting this problem with my top E string because I had raised the bridge too high in relation to the stop bar, and the strings in question where right up tight against the back of the bridge on their way down to the stop bar, instead of there being a small amount of space.I haven't broke a string since I lessened the angle. The only thing is:One would have expected this to affect the Top E string not the A and D.-But why not check it out before you take more drastic action?
