bluezguy
Greetings ... I've had a DR-500RNS for a couple years now and have put together a Solo acoustic act. I've been playing power trio for over 35 years and this solo stuff is quite intimidating because you REALLY miss your band mates beside you ... you know - the farting, the faces etc.. . Well, I've arranged and polished my three sets while sitting in a stinkin' chair. Know that it's time to go out, it just dawned on me that I CAN'T PERFORM in a seated position... I gotta do this standing up!! Now have you ever heard of anything so nutz??? Ya always see lots of acoustic performers sittin' down, but i ain't gonna be one of them. Time to re-train for a bit. Enough babbling.... Has anyone drilled and attached a strap button on the heel of their Masterbilt so you don't have your dang strap looking like a telegraph wire all the way down to your headstock? I specifically request DR series Masterbilts simply for size, balance & weight factor.
Fran Guidry
I get a lot of grief over this, but I put my strap button in the same place I'd put one on a Les Paul - in the upper shoulder. I predrill a small wooden block, smear a little white glue on it, and use it to reinforce the strap button. I've done this on about a dozen acoustics, from Epi Masterbilt EFs to Martins to find handmades and never had an issue. This location balances perfectly and keeps the strap out of the way of your playing hand. http://www.frets.com/FRETSPages/Musician/GenSetup/StrapButton/strapbutton2.html Fran

Gary622
Buying a DR-500MCE (it's on lay-away at Guitar Center as of now). How has the strap button on the heel worked? Looks like the heel of this one is rounded about like the DR500RNS. Greetings ... I've had a DR-500RNS for a couple years now and have put together a Solo acoustic act. el capitan
I reckon Meanstreak's got it right. You could put it next to the heel into the neckblock. Not into the heelcap, unless there's quite a gap between the heel & the rim-as on the IB Texan.
Gary622
I ended up getting the guitar and had the technician at Guitar Center put it in about the same place as meanstreak's... I thought he did a nice job. pictures of Masterbilt

clarkuss
I always put mine in the back of the heel. Always been done by a guitar tech costing about £15-20. Edit: I prefer standing up too!

Gary622
man the silver looks much better than my gold one! I've got to change it out lol Ah, a fellow traveler on the path to OCD. :-) I didn't even notice that in your picture. I just asked for a silver-tone one because it did match the hardware. My son's 3/4 scale Squier has silver finish tuners but a black plastic end peg, so when I had one put on his he asked for a black one. Since the silver ones came in packs of 2 me and the guitar tech talked him into matching the tuners. :-) What kind of strap are you using? My next project is to find a strap that fits that big end peg/jack for the cord...

Now I've put the Baggs in it and the "endpin" is a gorgeous dark brushed brass color and the gold looks so out of place! I use a big fat leather DSL strap CLICK HERE to check it out. DSL is an Australian company, I got the strap while living in the UK and love it! It fits pretty well, not had a problem, but honestly I don't stand while playing all that often and hardly move when I do!

I've enlarged the end that goes on the endpin/jack side - that's the connection that worries me, although the electric plug itself helps secure it. The strap button at the heel seems like a good fit.
