skiproberts Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Fender 50th Anniversary (1996) Deluxe Custom 62 Telecaster MIJ The most popular re-issue made in Japan. Hard to find. Here’s the original listing… ---------------------------------------------------------------- This Japanese reissue Telecaster® Custom 62 weighs just 7.60 lbs. and has a nut width of 1 11/16 inches and a scale length of 25 1/2 inches. Single-bound solid alder body. One-piece maple neck with a typical '62 medium-to-thin profile and "slab-rosewood" fretboard with 21 frets and white dot position markers. Two hot Custom 62 single-coil pickups: one plain metal-cover pickup at neck with an output of 7.47k and one black six-pole piece pickup angled in bridgeplate with an output of 5.99k. Three-layer white/black/white plastic pickguard with eight screws was replaced with a Vintage Mother of Pearl/black/white pickguard. Original neckplate was replaced with a vintage Fender “F” neckplate. Chrome Schaller Straplock buttons have replaced the original strap buttons. Fender® combined bridge/tailpiece stamped with the serial number ("A007862"). This guitar is in near mint (9.50) condition. Has one pencil tip ding on lower bout side. Housed in a Fender® molded case – condition is (8.50). ---------------------------------------------------------------- Fender Japan (MIJ-Made in Japan) made some fantastic guitars. The 1996 Deluxe Custom 50th Anniversary Models were no exception. In fact, between 1984 to 1986 Fender USA depended heavily on the MIJ models to supply the US market due to the CBS buyout and the moving of the US plant to Corona, California. It is said that as much as 80% of the Fender guitars sold in the US during that time were MIJ. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Just for reference, a 1986 was listed on Gbase for $3000, a 2000 for $1295. Being an Anniversary edition and in its current condition I put its approximate value at somewhere around $1500. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Will trade up r down for a Gibson. I have nothing particular in mind, maybe a small jumbo with a cut away – but that’s just an idea. LOVE THOSE GIBBYS! Let me know what you have!
