Spitfire Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 My Avatar 2x12 just showed up today so I played for about an hour on the new setup. First impressions in chronological order: Holy $h!t Special feeling down below OMG I'm in love It runs especially quiet compared to my Fender Blues Junior and is incredibly articulate. I was even able to get the bass E breaking up and the rest of the strings still singing clean and I'm no maestro. Sorry not polished up, just wiped it off after playing. Open Back Avatar 2x12, sounds good, looks good. It's an 18 watt, but uses the larger 20w Lead and Bass enclosure to accomadate the second channel (EF86) Other features are a half power switch for 9 watts. Sounds good so far, I can crank it on the half power setting in my practice area and it is manageable. Can't wait for fulll 18 watts, muhahahhaha first thing Saturday morning. Party hard tonight neighborsQQ :-s/
Thundergod Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Congrats mate... looks prety good... are those speakers the stock combination for that cab or did you have it customized?
MikeRom Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 That big honkin' head is only 20 watts ???? Awesome !!!! congrats
Spitfire Posted September 20, 2008 Author Posted September 20, 2008 Congrats mate... looks prety good... are those speakers the stock combination for that cab or did you have it customized? Avatar keeps this configuration in stock since it is pretty popular. I guess they compliment each other well. Sounds great to my ears.
surfpup Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 I tol' ya so! :) Glad you are digging yours as much as I am mine. (Same cab too - great combination the 12H30 and V30 - I like it better than the V30s by themselves for sure). Man I would love the hear the 20w non-master volume side by side with the 18w PPI master vol. I debated for some time about which to get.
Spitfire Posted September 21, 2008 Author Posted September 21, 2008 I've been running it on the 9w setting and I can crank it all the way for breathtaking natural overdrive, if I hit it with the fulltone OCD it screams. The sustain with my LP std is unbelievable as is the really sweet feedback, not shrill at all. Did you find the sound changed on your avatar cab as it broke in?

That's one of my favorite things about the amp. The cab sound has mellowed a bit - but the difference isn't huge to my ears. I did notice something else interesting though. With smaller amp heads (Tiny Terror, Blackheart, Valve Jr) I was turning the 2-12 cabinets up on end. Turns out it sounds a lot smoother with the G12H30 on top rather than with the V30 on top. For awhile I couldn't figure out why one of my Avatar 2-12 cabs sounded much sweeter than the other. I flipped it over and bingo! Of course since the Ceria is in a full size head cab, the speakers are side by side now.
Spitfire Posted September 21, 2008 Author Posted September 21, 2008 Nice! I'll give it a try. Now I just need one of these 60RIs....
