I need help!

I have a 1994 40th anniversary Strat, that I’m trying to get rid of, either for an Les Paul or an SG.

So I have posted it on Craigslist and I got someone wanting to my Strat for his 2007 wine-red Les Paul studio.

I haven't been playing that long, since I'm only 17 and I need some assistance from more older and experienced players!

Some things I'm wondering about:

1. My Strat has a really thin C neck, which I really hate! But I read that the studio has a 50's neck. Is this the same as the SG necks, because those are too thick.

2. It says there alnico 5 pickups online at musician friends, but someone says it’s ceramic on youtube.

3. Do you this is a pretty good trade?

Hi, welcome to the forum...

1.- SGs come with 60s "slim taper" necks.. which are thinner than a 50s neck... so if you dont like their thickness... you'll not like the 50s.

2.- deppends on the year (I think) but lots of people buy studios (and standards, hell even customs and reissues) to mod them... so what you read on MFers website is what comes in the guitar stock... if you are buying used the current owner could have replaced them.

3-It deppends... do you have pics of your giutar and his? Do you know how much your guitar goes for (used) on ebay? How much does his guitar goes (used) for on ebay?

You should ask for pics, then come here and we will be glad to help you with that guitar (beware there are a lot of fakes out there, and lots of a-holes trying to exchange their fake stuff with the unaware and inexpert real guitar owners...).

Ask him for pics, and please post your guitars complete model (lots of 1994 strats out there) and his guitar year/model/pics... ask him for the guitars serial number so we can check if it is real or not and what year is it.

If all things are equal regarding condition of the guitars, this isn't a deal I would make. I think your '94 annv. strat is worth a more than either of the 2 guitars mentioned.

Maybe you can trade for one of the guitars + some cash from the other party.

Good Luck

^^^^ I'm shocked to hear you say that your guitar is worth such a small amount. ^^^^

I haven't followed strat prices lately, but I thought the 40th anniversary editions were worth more. I was thinking that your guitar had a value in the range of $1200-$1600.

If you don't like the guitar, then by all means trade it for something your going to enjoy playing.

Best of luck on your decision, it's not an easy one.

Oh i shouldn't trade it?

hmm... I don't really like this guitar' date=' and i want a Les paul!

btw... my guitar is only worth like 600-800... or so ebay and people say tome.[/quote']

If you don't like it then get what you like. Gibson Studios have the 59 rounded neck, which is a bit chunky. SG Standards have a 50s neck also, (not a 60s slim taper) Although some other model SGs have the 60s neck, the Standard does not. You really should get to a store and try some of these necks to see whats best for you before you trade that Strat. You don't want to end up with a neck you don't like on a guitar that may be worth less that what you've already got. Good luck.
