Stewie Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Hey guys I need a quick answer. I am looking at a 1996 Les Paul Standard. I have had several answers as to what pickups came in them. Can anyone tell me for sure that they came with. I will be heading out in a couple of hours to look at it. Thanks in Advance.
FennRx Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 could be:498T 496R the 496 is a ceramic...i dont think they put those in stds
Stewie Posted September 20, 2008 Author Posted September 20, 2008 What ever they are the sound amazing. I absolutely stole this guitar.
bobv Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Congratulations, unless you actually ran off with it without paying. Love the speed knobs, and the Nashville bridge should be nice and stable and intonate well. Is that nickel or chrome?
Tim Plains Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Sweet top! If you stole the guitar, then you should be able to buy new knobs. I don't like speed knobs.
Stewie Posted September 20, 2008 Author Posted September 20, 2008 Well let's put it this way. I paid about 300 under what he was asking and what he was asking was about 300 under the market value for that guitar. as far as the knobs go that was the least of my worries. It was already set up by the best guy in the area and it rings and plays like a dream. The peg head in Hamilton did the work.
Stewie Posted September 20, 2008 Author Posted September 20, 2008 Tim: I guess that kind of solves my quest for a Traditional LP. BTW what knobs should have come on this guitar. I know the vintage style look good, but 12 years ago what was Gibson using?

Stewie Posted September 20, 2008 Author Posted September 20, 2008 I got a pretty good idea of what was on the 96 Standard from the guys over at the Les Paul forum. It seems my guitar is pretty well as advertised, "all original". Thanks guys.
CajunBlues Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Well let's put it this way. The peg head in Hamilton did the work. So you must have paid under $1000... Because the market value for a used 96 standard is about $1600. Wow that's a steal... I can't believe you paid under $1000 !! Here is a very similar guitar. http://shrinkster.com/128s
Stewie Posted September 20, 2008 Author Posted September 20, 2008 Not up here in Canda. If you could find them up here for that you would buy it. The going rate for one in mint shape with the correct Gibson case is closer to 1900 to 2000 dollars. It does not pay to buy them in the US either because by the time you import them and pay duties and taxes you don't save anything. Plus I was able to see it and try it out with an amp. So you can see approx. what I paid. I have been looking for about a year and anything I saw was either just sold or over 2000. And the one on Ebay had a non original case.
surfpup Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Was there supposed to be a point to this thread? :)
Stewie Posted September 20, 2008 Author Posted September 20, 2008 Yes: I was asking if anyone knew what pickups came in the 1996 LP Standard. I was given two answers just before I left to look at one that was for sale. I ended up buying it and I thought I would show a picture of it. But as usual all I get is a lot of attitude. I know why I don't spend much time over here. Sorry for wasting your time, Surfpup.
surfpup Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Yeah, and you got your answer about 10 posts ago. Then you *****footed around about how much you paid for it. If you are gonna brag about the deal you got, I'm all for it. I love hearing about a good deal. Looks like a nice guitar to me. Don't be shy; spill the beans, bro.
