Supersonic
I don't know if there is a thread about this or not, but is there any difference between Epi Elite and Elitist models? I saw 2 '65 Casinos on eBay. Both are listed as Elitist, but one is an Elite and one is an Elitist. Aside from the fact that the seller installed a Bigsby on the first one, they appear to be exactly the same except the first one says "Elite" on the TRC and back of headstock and the second one says Elitist. Is there any difference or was the name simply changed? Here's the 2: Elite Elitist

Here's the 2: Elite Elitist I did a bit of research before I got my elite les paul...first came the "elite" series, then came a name change to "elitist" a bit later due to a conflict with another manufacturer (Takamine Elite series maybe?) As far as I know it was a name change bought on by Gretsch (from my feeble memory) having a similarly named model/line, Fender also had an Elite series in the early '80s, I got one and it's a ball tearer. Supersonic
Okay, thanks for the info guys. I just never noticed it before and was curious. Gotta love copyright battles! BTW Rob, wasn't it Gretsch that made Fender stop using the name "Broadcaster" back in the day too?

Not sure Mike, wouldn't surprise me though, funny thing if that's true is that Fender and Gretsch are now the same company. LOL
RobinTheHood
Yep, they are the same thing. Although I have them listed wrong on the wiki. There was also a Japanese market Elitist that ran at the same time. The Japanese Elitists had an open-book on the solid-body guitars..
charlie brown
Gibson/Epiphone changed the name, from "Elite" to "Elitist," due to a conflict (copywrite) on the "Elite" name, with Ovation (Elite Series, etc.) CB

Fender changed the name to Telecaster in 1950 I think. Somehow it may have been a fateful decision. Imagine calling your guitar a "Broad" rather than a "Tele". Funny old world isn't it?
