elprusio
Hi, Can anyone explain me what a good gibson special with P90 is ? okay, the original ('55) shall be a good deal but i'm affraid is to expensive for me. :-( (I like the sunburst color) What is better and what are the major differences ? * Gibson Special Reissue '74 * Gibson Special Reissue '77 (with the tune-o-matic bridge) * Gibson Special '90's * Gibson Special VOS ... and what about the Gibson '60 tribute guitar ? My Goal is to buy a gibson with 2 P90's and a neck profile that's not to thin and specially a guitar to play with it everyday like it's your first orgasm :-) Can anyone help me ? (not with my orgasm offcourse, it's a good guitar i want) gr Hans
Thundergod
I think the special faded double cut is/was one of the best and at a really cheap price. I find it amazing how Gibson USA's best guitars are the cheaper, I've tried lots of special fadeds doublecuts and all but one were great guitars (the one that was bad was in need of a setup and that would probably have made her better). Sadly all I find locally are either black or wine red and I NEED a yellow one

BigKahune
. I'm taking about the Faded version, which I think sold for under $1000 when new. Yeah. Killer deal.

My TV Yellow one (above) was $475.00 New. My personal "mods" (5-ply pickguard, Grover tuners, and '59 TRC) was another $100 bucks. LOVE it! charlie brown
Also, to answer your question, about the '50's & '60's "Tribute" Studio guitars? GREAT! For the Price, they're wonderful. I liked the '50's so much, that when they brought out the '60's version, I got one of those, as well. Crazy...for sure, but I really enjoy them, both! The '50's has a bit fatter neck, although very nice even so, and it has "orange drop" cap's, so the tone is a bit more "midrange" bias, than the '60's. The '60's has a "rounder" (for lack of a better description) tone, and the somewhat slimmer '60's neck profile. Both, are excellent players, and take no appreciable effort, to get "used to." The tone differences, too, are not drastic, by any means. Amp EQ would easily compensate, for either one. My Tribute Gold Tops: (I/We love "Guitar Porn," here.) ;>) 50's back (4-piece, but nicely done) 60's back (Center seamed 2-piece) There are some 1-piece backs, as well...but, like the center seamed 2-piece, they're a lot more rare. The number of pieces, in the back, does NOT effect tone! At least, not enough to worry about, as I have yet to play any, that were anything but "lively" even unplugged, no matter how many pieces, the backs had. Especially the "TV Yellow" one, huh? I do have a '66 Epi Casino, with P-90's. This was purchased, in Seattle, in 1980, and had been "grunged" with spray paint! So, I had it professionally refinished, that same year. I wish now, I had taken photos of it, as I recieved it. You'd know, then, Why I refinished it! LOL My other 2 P-90 "looking" guitars, actually have P-100's (Stacked humbucker version, of P-90's). Les Paul "Junior Lite" was Gibson's description, though they are more like a the Double Cut, LP Specials (2 pickups) than a "Junior," which typically, has 1 pickup. Unfortunately, they're no longer made. But you will see them, once in awhile, on E-bay. Mine have been cosmetically modded, slightly. (TP6 tailpieces, and tulip tuners... in "gold" on the black one, obviously.) ;>) The P-100's have a tone, and character, in-between a P-90, and Mini-humbucker.
