old rock
A guy is selling a 2005 SG Classic with 2 - P-90s at a decent price. His reason for selling, he does not like the P-90 sound. My question, if down the road I decided that I did not like the P-90 sound, is the Classic body routed for humbucking pickups? For instance, could I use a Gibson pickguard from an SG Faded or similar model with same shape pickguard and replace the P-90s with some Gibson humbuckers or is the Classic only routed for P-90s and drilled for a P-90 pickguard? Da Sting
My question' date=' if down the road I decided that I did not like the P-90 sound, is the Classic body routed for humbucking pickups[/quote']Nope. But if you change your mind soundwise, there's always one or the other way.//Edit: The words "one" and "way" are actually links to fitting PU alternatives, and, imho the best ones. ;-) Cheers, DS
old rock
Sting, I can't imagine changing the P-90's but I had to ask. thanks for the info.
GKingN
You can get mini-humbuckers.
nolongermike@gibson
Yeah, mini humbuckers should fit, but I can't imagine you'll want to lose the tone of P-90's. I had a smoking hot SG classic with P90s that I truly regret selling, even though I got back every penny I paid for it.
TattooedCarrot
Some companies do make humbucker replacements in a P90 housing, I know Dimarzio and EMG do. Here's the routing on a Classic, and humbuckers will NOT fit stock.
old rock
Carrot, Wow that really takes the guessing out of the question. Thanks for uploading the facts. As an update: I purchased the SG Classic, and I can't put it down. What a great little guitar that has a unique sound not to mention easy on the shoulder. I'm leaving good enough alone and not changing the pups. Thanks to all
