Geff
My local shop has an SG in (used). I dont have a picture but: They say it is a supreme - they describe it as flameburst (it is NOT a Gibson dealer by the way) The guitar is black on the rear/sides/neck and the front has what i can best describe as a hot rod style flame paint-job Not a burst finish at all but actual painted on flames in layered red/orange/yellow. I suspect that this is not actually the original finish but that someone painted it themselves. The black on the rear and sides, in particular, is not very good. It almost looks like a brush rather than spray paint finish. Anyone know of an SG that would fit this description that came from the factory that way? Assuming I am correct that it is an aftermarket paint job, am I correct in assuming that it renders the guitar pretty much worthless in relative terms (they are asking what I would describe as full market value for a good example of a used SG). It was called "Lavaburst." It was one of the early 3 choices offered during the Supreme's run (the others being Midnight Blue & Emerald Green). Later, Gibson added "Transparent Black" before phasing out the Supreme model (there may have been other color options I've missed). The sale price for these were just under $2,000.00 brand new at Guitar Center, Musician's Friend and other retailers.
Geff
A quick check of t'interweb reveals that that is not a lavaburst. I am now more convinced than ever that someone has tried to pass off their own work as Gibson's. It may well be a genuine Gibson but I dont think it is "original"! Geff
given that the shop in question deals mainly with poor student types, I doubt the axe will sell soon so it may well be there when I next go in. If it is I will take a better look at it and maybe even get a picture on my phone.
