ebony casino

hiya,

i wish epiphone brought back the casino in ebony(black).i would get one if they did.anyone else wish the same thing?

Not me, of course everybody has their own personal taste.

I had one high gloss black guitar, and I'll never have another.

They just show fingerprints and everything else too much.

I gig with my guitar and actually like the satin (instead of gloss), natural wood finishes the best.

I have a foot in both camps on the black finish issue, not a lot look finer than a well finished black guitar, the maintenance required to keep it looking that way is a PIA though.

I have two black Epi's (LP and SG) and it is indeed a pain to keep fingerprints and smudges off of them. They look killer though (especially my G400 Deluxe LE), so for me it's worth giving them a little extra attention after I play 'em to keep them looking good. That being said, 2 black guitars is plenty for me and I wont be buying any more in the near future. Especially now that the cherry ES-355 will be coming out [drool]

I love black guitars. Here's a pair; top one is 1993 Korean Epi. I got this at a yard

sale for shockingly low price, with OHSC. The bottom is an Austin with some

mods. MOP and Abalone dragon inlay pick guard, and unknown (to me) wiring

mods, and Abalone fret dots. The Austin sounds a bit better than the Epi.

Funny you should bring that up. I just rediscovered my peerless Casino that I rarely played since I got it in 1997. It is such a great rediscovery. Great feel, great looks, just working on replacing the tuners when I find some better ones. Anyhow thought I would post you these pics of this ebony beauty with original epi vibratone.

hi,i managed to get an ebony casino off ebay,a 2003 peerless made one.

it needs a good polish, new strings(what gauge?)the control knobs are loose and one of them is badly chipped on the edge.oh and one of the pots crackle's. the previous owner must have abused it a little but no major scratchs or dings.

Great. The string gauges are a personal choice, but I have done fine using 9's and even 10's. Control knobs do comes loose and if you carefully pull off the particular control knob (some call them hats because of the appearance) you can have access to the tightening nut. Just make it snug, do not overtighten. You can always find a replacement hat.

Crackles in the pots? I have not dealt with that issue much with this casino. On my Strat I have pot issues over the years, and I have been lucky to just squirt a shot of deoxit on the offending pot pole, and that worked for me.

I recall having my luthier replace the toggle switch shorty after got the Casino , because it was just crackling at every use. That might be common for the Epi's.

If it were me, I would take the guitar in to a reputable luthier and have him set the guitar up and he can do a check of everything, then you will know where you stand.

As I mentioned earlier I am just rediscovering my Casino, which I rarely played after buying it in 1997. I would pull it out every year or two and take it in to have the neck and everything checked. Play it for an hour or two....and then back in the case. It is like a new guitar in appearance and function. But now since I want to play it more I am on a mission to replace those God awful machine heads. Keeping a guitar in tune with the cheap nut and the rolling vibrato bar, requires that I get the nut changed and replace those tuners.

Hey keep us updated on the guitar's progress.......that's how everyone on a guitar forum learns. Pics too, I enjoy looking at the Epi's.
