Tim Plains Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Hi Mike, Why is there a Gibson paid employee (Custom Admin) that browses the Custom section of the forum and answers questions in that section and that section alone? The Les Paul section is by far the most active with the most amount of question, yet there is no Gibson rep that answers them. Rather, there is an admin personel that only deletes off-topic threads. Why is that?
nolongermike@gibson Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I am not aware of an admin coming in and deleting off topic threads. I don't think that's a great idea. When we finally move to the "real" forum software we will be able to move threads around to better places to encourage on topic discussions, but deleting? I'll find out. I am working on getting somebody from every division to get back in here and start participating (again). Give me a little time, guys. Rome was not built in a day.
Thundergod Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 You are doing a good job man... Im looking forward to all this changes you are talking about...
deepblue Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Yes, I feel good things are in store here at the Gibson forum. Im getting a good vibe from Mike.
Tim Plains Posted September 23, 2008 Author Posted September 23, 2008 Mike, yeah they deleted a whole bunch. Some good, some bad. Like the spam threads were and obvious delete...but a lot of non Gibson Les Paul threads were deleted merely because they weren't Gibson Les Paul specific. I can relate with part of the rational. This is Gibson's site; so, why would Gibson allow me to promote another product like Fender or PRS, right? That part makes sense and I agree with it. Guess this can be the official "Ask Mike" thread because I have another question for you. As part of this new lounge, can I or other forum members try and sell equipment here? I noticed there's a MM for sale here and thought I'd ask. Hey deepblue, you live locally...wanna buy a 2006 LP Standard?
ksdaddy Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I'm getting a bad vibe about having a Gibson employee here. Seems like it's going to turn into "Mike's Fan Club" real quick.
Robin Nahum Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I'm getting a bad vibe about having a Gibson employee here. Seems like it's going to turn into "Mike's Fan Club" real quick. Given it's a website run by Gibson, that doesn't seem unreasonable to me and I think Mike is doing a great job. I would have thought that his active presence offers a great communication opportunity. Gosh, if I had a penny for each time that I have heard a plea at non-affiliated guitar websites for manufacturer representatives to participate.... I don't expect that the moderators here will wear flaming or other disruptive behaviour but my experience has been that the moderators at the better non-affiliated websites don't either. It just drives people away and makes it pretty much impossible to present as a credible forum. RN
nolongermike@gibson Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Oh mercy, that's not gonna happen. I'm just a guy with a guitar jones who happens to work here and wants to help make it a better place. Give me a shot, and I'll do my best to keep the clamoring fans to stay calm. =D>/ I'm getting a bad vibe about having a Gibson employee here. nolongermike@gibson Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Well, I can't think of a good reason not to allow that, but I'll inquire with the boss-man before I make that call officially about people selling their used gear on the forum. I personally don't mind, but I don't write the checks around here. As for deletions, well, my intention is not to delete that which is not offensive, spam, or otherwise warranting such action. If something is well off topic, it has a new home to be moved to now, but I will advise against deletions as I work with those already from the company in the forum, and also gather a new crew of other Gibson folks to come help out around here. Seriously, I'm here to help you build a great community, no other reason. You guys do a great job of creating that community all on your own, and I want to give you the things you need to make this the forum you go to first, want to hang out in, and rely on the most out there. It ain't about me, its about you. I just want to make sure you all get what you need to make this place really rock. And I can't stress it enough, I'm a guitar guy like the rest of you. I spend way too much money and time (according to the intervention specialists) on my guitar habits, and am excited to get to spend some "official" time on my addiction with others who share my affliction. :) Mike' date=' yeah they deleted a whole bunch.
