bluesrob
yes, why no epiphone archtop acoustics? It seems like a real gap in the Epi line.
Red 333
yes, why no epiphone archtop acoustics? It seems like a real gap in the Epi line. I brought that point up with Epi1 (Epiphone president Jim Rosenberg)on the Gibson CEO forum a while back. I'd love to see a Masterbilt archtop. Also an all-mahogany slope shoulder with a big fat neck (like one of those rare, all hog war-time J-45's), if you're reading this, Mr. R. By the way, Jim, love the idea of the 50th Anniversary Casino, but I'm waiting for the McCartney spec! WHEN, WHEN, WHEN? Those ES-355's look good, too! I will give them careful consideration when they reach these shores... Red
bonzoboy
In order for Epi to build an archtop equal in quality to the archtops of the 40s and 50s I dare say that the costs involved in making them would be prohibative.
TommyK
On would think you could take emperor tooling and make a non-electrified arch-top. New arch tops seem to be a boutique thing. Not much market for it, unfortunately.
RobinTheHood
On would think you could take emperor tooling and make a non-electrified arch-top. Yes. In the past there were both electric and acoustic Emperors. I believe the biggest difference was the lack of pickup...maybe some other minor differences. BillyGibson
I just received MF's June catalog in the mail yesterday, plus GC's and a local music shop's ad. It was a very good mail day. I saw the 5th avenue in MF's at under $700. It looked real sweet. I may have to check one out some place around here, if I can find one. Can any one share their thoughts on how they sound? bonzoboy
I just got the latest Guitar Player Gear issue and the Gretsch archtop pictured above has a MSRP of $2,125-not cheap.I'm quite content with my Harmony Archtone that cost $39.99 in 1966 you can get them on Ebay for as low as $300 these days and they sound great.
