Where are Gibson Custom Acoustic guitars made?

I thought all "custom" acoustic guitars (with the decal on the back of the neck) were made in Bozeman????? Are the Custom guitars made in Tennessee????? Does anyone have a name and contact number for the Custom Acoustic Shop? The standard 800 number for customer service does not get me there. I'm trying to get a "authenticity certificate" for a used guitar I purchased, where the original owner had lost his paperwork. Thanks....wily

Made in Bozeman, the Custom Shop acoustics are.

1-800-426-2636 is their number.

I am new here and have a question I'd like to ask. I have a chance to purchase a prototype Legend Series J45. I have heard stories both good and bad about proto type instruments. I have heard that some of these can have engineering & construction problems while others of the same lot can be even better than the actual production models. Do any of you have or know of anything I might need to know before I accept shipment of this guitar? Judging from the photos is is an amazing guitar. But as we all know too well, looks can be very deceiving. The dealer instruments all come with the Red Line Case but this one comes in a dusty old Gibson case. I am hopeful that I can purchase one that is correct for this guitar should I take delivery.

I would appreciate any kind of heads up you might be willing to share.

Thank You,

The only general problem with the prototypes was with the pickguard: they tried putting them under the finish (like on the original) but using a standard modern weak adhesive (for the standard modern reason' date=' viz. to avoid pickguard cracks) and found out that didn't work very well. Finding out whether things work is the point of doing a run of prototypes, so chalk one up for Gibson methodology!

Naturally, Legend Series J-45s vary, like every other model of guitar. I've never heard a production model that sounds as good to me as my prototype, but that's just one set of ears and a small sample.

The prototypes all came with regular cases. The red line repro cases are a cute touch but, functionally, they're not any better than the standard cases. Maybe not even as good.

+1 on what rar said. The only problem I'm aware of is the pickguard problem. Some seem to be worse than others. I've heard of no other structural problems.

The red line case is included on all of the regular production Legends. Those are probably the ones you're referring to as the "dealer instruments". If a dealer still has a prototype, it will come with a regular case and not a red line case.
