stratslinger
I love my 61RI to bits, but I find humbuckers just a little too compressed and prefer the sound of P90's Has anyone tried the P94's or any other retro fit P90?
Dallastx
Seymour Duncan humbucker sized P-90s have had good reviews.
charlie brown
Nah...just save up, and buy an SG "Classic," or even the new Tribute. Gotta have both, P-90's and Humbucker's! Besides, '57's, in an SG are Great!! CB
theForgottenCereal
I dunno, if I had a 61RI SG I'd leave it alone. That being said, putting the P-94s in it would be interesting and unique. I guess you could always just keep the '57s and switch them back as you see fit.

It is an amazing guitar and I just feel the compressed sound of the humbuckers are selling it short. I have a les paul junior and it has such an open and raunchy sound - I have to try P90's in this SG :)
Lungimsam
Would love to hear sound clips if you do it. Sounds very cool. But I would think a Classic would sound pretty much the same.
sgman
I have a '61 R.I. and definitely wouldn't be changing the '57's for anything. I just love the tone I get with them and am more than happy with the way it is. Having said that though, everybody has different tastes etc but is there any way you could keep your '61 R.I. as is and just buy an SG with P-90's in it, as already suggested?
