RichM Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Just purchased Les Paul Black Beauty 3 pick up custom but am experiencing quite a lot of hum through my amp. Spoke with Gibson customer services and was requested to take it to local warranty provider. I did this and they said that it was inadequately shielded. The warranty provider contacted Gibson Warranty only to be told that extra shielding wasn't covered by warranty. I was also told by Gibson customer service that it might not be the guitar, it could be me or the surroundings or the building. I have tried it on three different amps in 3 different buildings and with three different people and experienced the same problem each time. I think this points to the guitar. Gibson customer service then suggested that I return it to them and they would sort it out under warranty. Make your mind up guys, is shielding covered by warranty or not? If I return it to Gibson it will be at least 4 weeks before I see it again, if it is done at the warranty provider it will be completed tomorrow. Gibson customer service also told me to try a ground lifter, hey guys, I don't want to electrocute myself!!!! Surely, the guitar should be adequately shielded when it leaves the factory!!!! So I am not too happy at the moment!!!!
nolongermike@gibson Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Rich, somebody from customer service will be in touch tomorrow. Not much we can do here in the forums for you, but I understand the need to vent a little when you're frustrated. Gibson stands behind what they make.
KennyF Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Hi Rich, As frustrating as this is, it'll all work out. I'm sure it's something very simple. Actually, it has to be, because there isn't anything all that complicated about LP wiring. Probably just a loose ground or something. How does it play?
RichCI Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Kudos to you Gibson guys for being all over this and helping out Rich. =)

RichM Posted September 25, 2008 Author Posted September 25, 2008 This is now being sorted and I should get my guitar back on Saturday. Apart from the shielding problem the guitar is great and has a wonderful sound.
NeoConMan Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Gibson steps up to the plate! Wish my phone/cable company would.... Customer Service is DEAD in this country, and "technology" ain't workin'.
