Yggdrasil
I'd vote rosewood as well - I have 2006 mahogany 12 fretter & it has a very different look. Yours looks like one of those 14 fret long scale rosewood NLs (?).

Yours looks like one of those 14 fret long scale rosewood NLs (?). Yes it has 14 frets clear of the body and very high quality craftsmanship with the way the entire guitar is bound. I've never owned a finer made instrument. The sound is sooo Pure!

Craig910
No it wasn't - Dylan's Nick Lucas was a 13 fretter with a rosewood back http://www.lutherie.net/model_h.html
Mojorule
For me, Dylan's acoustic playing never sounded better than on his Nick Lucas, hence the interest. Was wondering what was driving that powerful little beast.
slimt
Both Ren and John had a hand in what you have.. if not hands on.. deffinetly in the structure of the Guitar... Two great Builders.... By the Way... NL Gibsons at Montana were done in Rosewood, Maple on the 1994 , and Brazillian ( Per Customers request and pocket book..) as a option in the Custom Shop.. slimt
Back in 1990 to the end of 94.. I was buying heavily .. all Gibson Flattops.. I do think even to this day.. the early 90s was the best since the the mid 50s.. even though there were finish problems with there fullerplast .. The quality was Nice.. The guitars Sounded really Nice, and Played very well.. I think in my opinion.. the best years for Gibsons newer acoustics.. The Brazillian Nick L thats pictured, I bet is a 6500.00 + Guitar.. Hogeye
90492002 Would like to know if it was built by John Walker or Ren Ferguson. Should you have info on this send a pm Gibson/Montana re-introduced the Nick Lucas in 1991. It was a limited edition of 100 guitars. There were 22 in Rosewood and 82 in Maple. It was not on the price list in '92. Since that total exceeds the 100 limit the excess could have been sold in '92 From the photo of the guitar in the pink case the back looks like very fine quarter sawn Brazilian Rosewood... If that's the case you have a wonderful, expensive guitar. I would encourage you to bring it to a vintage dealer or a good luthier and have him give you a answer. It's hard to tell from a photo but as a general rule Brazilian has a brown cast and Indian has a redish purple cast. The photo tends to favor the brown cast. Either way it a wonderful quarter sawn back. Gibson doesn't list the Nick Lucas as a price list guitar until much later. The next time it shows up on their price list is 1999 and it lists it with customer selected wood at $2,829.00. The production numbers tell a little different story. 1991: 22 Rosewood Nicks 1992: 10 Rosewood Nicks 1993: 2 Rosewood Nicks The "92 and '93'a were probably Custom Shop or maybe '91 over/run. Judging by your serial number the guitar could have been a guitar started in '91 and finished in "92. If the label says Custom Shop mystery solved.... If it's a custom Shop guitar then Ren,John, and Kevin Kopp would have all had a hand in building it. If you have an inspection mirror look inside under the top and see if there is a name in pencil. Sometimes they were signed by the builders. Check behind a brace as Gibson frowned on the practice so they hid initials and names behind the braces so as not to be easily detected.
