onewilyfool Posted September 23, 2008 Author Posted September 23, 2008 For some reason....you need to copy the whole link's two lines and put it in your browser window....you can't just click on it....(don't know how to fix that)
jefleppard Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 i liked it. that pickguard is like crazy man. you have to copy and paste the whole message to view it.
ksdaddy Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 To me, it's not that there's too much bling (it IS a J200 after all) I'm just a little weirded out with the design on the guards. What's it supposed to be, some kind of Aztec thing? I know it's flames but not normal hot rod Gretsch rockabilly type flames. Here's the link: Ron Wood Bling Big Money wow was I high when I designed those guards Gibson
Thermionik Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Looks like stick-on tacky stuff from the dime store..... The wood all over is divine, even the fingerboard is nice if just a tad tacky, but those guards and that moustachio bridge!!!!! Like a comic-book guitar played by a mexican bandido. Two guards always says flamenco to me (said that in a previous post - but did it in spanish without thinking and they all thought I was an illegal and so ignored it).
TWilson Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I don't normally like the double pickguard look but the more I checked this one out the more I liked it. Maybe because it is so overboard. The maple is beautiful and it is, after all, an SJ-200! If it's a Roberto Rodriquez model I think I know a chap that'll be all over this chico malo.
nodehopper Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Wily...... Are you being a little insecure about your Firebird Gibson ? Obviously ...Different strokes for different folks. I personally don't care for the looks of the Ron Woods model, but your Firebird is definitely a beauty. Looks like your Firebird took the best with out adding the garish double pick guard and mustache bridge. The beautiful maple on the Ron Woods is so pretty that it needs to be the 'bling' and to me the addition of the pick guard and bridge competes with the wood and makes the whole thing seem too busy. I mean..... I think there is a bit more of a history or expectation that Gibson guitars are a bit more ostentatious than some of the other more traditional brands such as Martin. Not that Martin doesn't have it's bling'n guitars, but this is my opinion based on the average Martin sold vs.the average Gibson. I mean my CJ-165 has abalone parallel fret markers and abalone rosette on the sound hole. Where as a general Martin at that price point would probably not have the abalone rosette and only standard dot fret markers. So come on Wily....man-up and grab that Firebird like it is 'YOUR' guitar and command the spot light that such a gorgeous guitar deserves (says the guy who curls up in the fetal position at the thought of playing in front of others ..LOL!!) I guess if I was Ron Woods and had a couple of hot groupies, a small mountain of blow, and cases of Jack Daniels in my trashed hotel room doing Rock Star debauchery ....I would want a gaudy Signature Edition Gibson too!!
onewilyfool Posted September 24, 2008 Author Posted September 24, 2008 Node...about the ONLY thing my guitar has in common with this one....is the Fret makers....and I agree....I like mine better....check the price on the Ron Woods....outta my league....I can't AFFORD the bling....lol
