espasonico
Do you know if the AJ is nitro finsh ? I´m need a guitar stand and most of them are not nitro compatible. Thanks
Mojorule
I assume it is a recent model. If so, like all Gibson acoustics from Bozeman, it is nitro finish. In fact, I believe that all Gibsons are nitro, period. Even the ones with satin or worn finishes. Vintage Gibsons will also be nitro finish. Good luck finding an appropriate stand. torca
Yes it is,unless in the unlikely case you have an early 89-91 model, those were the fullerplast finish.Since then it has been nitrocellulose .
espasonico
Mine is a 2010. Do you recommend any stand for stage use and nitro friendly ?

Stubee
Yes it is,unless in the unlikely case you have an early 89-91 model, those were the fullerplast finish.Since then it has been nitrocellulose . +1. Got a 2003, very nice nitro job on this one. Have two stand types that work but honestly cannot tell ya their brands, been too long since I got 'em. If ever any question, drape a thick cotton cloth--washcloth or small towel, diaper (!), a T-shirt if needed--over the rubber parts while the guitar is in it. That works and not a bad if unsure. struma6
I think what you want to be aware of is a stand that has the surgical tubing as pads. Left in contact for an extended period it will discolor nitro finishes. Just my .02...I wouldn't keep any of my guitars in a stand when I'm not playing it. I always put 'em away in the case (HSC!) Just too may things can happen to ding and bang 'em up. When I play out I ALWAYS put it in the case between sets...too many times having a drunked up guy stumble up and try to grab it to "check it out". Stands are good between songs or when using an alternate guitar. If you use a stand like that it doesn't really matter what the material is...it won't be in the stand enough to matter. My stand of choice is the Ultimate, with the cammed gates that keep it from falling out.
GotTheSilver
I use K&M stands. Keep my AJ and other Gibsons in them all the time and never had a problem. I was at Buffalo Brothers in California and they had a lot of their guitars in K&M stands, so I figured they would be safe. No discoloration or damage to any guitar finishes in the three years I have been using them.
vincentw
Good info regarding stand brands that are safe for Gibsons. Thanks for the info!
Windwalker9000
If the nitro finish is exposed to synthetic ruber, the reaction is like a cancer, it begins a slow but steady process of eating away the nitro finish!!!
jchabalk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxYQQoYfMtQ I also use String Swing wall hangers, they work great too. I haven't had any issues with either of them
