vern_s
I've started a Les Paul account cuz I just have to have one!!! I've played quite a few Epiphones and yes, they're pretty nice, but, they're just not a Gibson! My buddy has the Zakk camo Epiphone and it really kicks butt, but, it's not a Gibson! He ended up buying a real sweet LP Standard Heritage Cherry Sunburst with a satin finish and has absolutely 0 regrets. He told me that the biggest thing that he has noticed is that the Les Paul doesn’t feedback nearly as much as the Epi does on stage. Well, what I would really like to know is what the differences between the Studio, the Classic, and the Standard are? I kind of have my eye on a few nice Studio’s and there's quite the price difference, but what are the added features that make the Standard so much more expensive? matiac
Binding and pickups pretty much, they're all basically the same guitar with cosmetic, and minor electrical differences, some have A Uup to AAAAA maple caps, the VOS guitars are supposed to be historically accurate reproductions of older guitars, and last but not least, price. Get what you can afford, they're all bangin' guitars.
FennRx
classic has really hot pickups. i like the Standard. And as always, I will vouch for the Std Faded, which is easier on the wallet. that being said, i own one of each:d/
Stewie
I have been looking for a Gibson Les Paul as well. I have and ES335 and a 1968 original SG. I had been looking for a classic or standard. I even looked at an R8. But I decided to get the Studio in fireburst. In Canada they had been running round 12 to 1400 for the past couple of years. With the new dollar I was able to get one for 1099. That includes the Gibby case. A friend of mine had a 1989 Studio in Wine red and it was the nicest sounding LP that I have ever heard. He won't sell it so I got the EPI Elitist Custom in Wine red and THAT is a sweet guitar, but I wanted a Gibson. If I don't like it I can always sell it and upgrade to a standard. avidkut
I'm new to the forum as well. I used to play a Gibson LP Standard back in the '80s but alas I sold it in the mid-90's#-o Over the last year I've been trying out various Epi LPs, Gibson LP Studios, Standards, etc. I was hoping to get away with just buying one of the higher-end Epis but I honestly felt and heard a difference, not just between the Epi's and the Gibsons but also between the Studio and the Standard. I ended up with a AAA Cherry Sunburst Gibson LP Standard and I can't say enough good things about the look, feel, and sound of this guitar. I would say play as many as you can and when you find a guitar that blows you away, that's the one. DK

harmonicchaos
if you can, get the std (fadeds are nice imo) then the classic. the studios are good but you'll miss the binding. i got a vm studio and i miss the binding and the body dents easily. i'm thinking about refinishing and maybe putting binding on it. i should probably get a standard or a classic but i don't have the $$$ and even if i did i wouldn't want to sell the vm because it has sentimental value to it (first guitar). i like the idea of customization anyway.
