GKingN Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Ummmm, I believe some hell yeahs are in order. http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyle/Features/the-new-robot-flying-v-and-rob/
clance Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Normally I'd be excited, but that paint job makes it look so cheap. Yes, we get it, its a robot guitar, guitar of the future, but whats wrong with standard paint jobs? At least as an option? How many people here are into this kind of thing?
GKingN Posted September 25, 2008 Author Posted September 25, 2008 If you put a white pick-guard on it, it would look a lot better.
Rick Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 i will never buy a red explorer, white or black, but not red :D
Ian Martin Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 The paint job...yeah... Why must Gibson introduce these guitars in such atrocious colors? Are they testing the waters by going "Here's a cool new product in a lameass color, if someone buys it anyway they we are definitely on to something. Imagine how they'll sell in normal colors!" I am totally intrigued by the Robot guitars now (especially as I've heard NOTHING but rave reviews). HOWEVER, do you guys think this is really the way guitar technology is headed? Someday will all guitars come equipped with this ability to self-tune? Hell, half the musicians I know can't tune by ear the way it is. Will this only enable them??? Despite how awesome the technology is and how great it works, will it ever be anything but a gimmick, or will "manual" tuning guitars be viewed as antiques?
Hydra26 Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Kinda ignorant here. THe concept hasn't interested me enough to really look into it, but man, I hate red guitars. Just a personal preference thing. Other thing is, They seem to have less controls and hence less ability to tweak one's sound. Correct me if I'm wrong, by all means. Heck it looks like the V only has a master volume? I like the bound necks and trapezoid inlays. Too bad they couldn't offer that option on the standard models.
Bluesburst Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I want one... BUT, I will wait in hope they come in an extended range of colors, hopefully metallic purple. Hey, if they're going to go nuts, then do it properly. I will change the pickups, I'm convinced Gibson have a warehouse full of 496/500's they're determined to get rid of somehow. I pulled them out of my LP Classic. So, when do we get a Robot Reverse V???
Morten M Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Why on earth didn't they use '57's or Burstbuckers instead? Some very typical V sounds can only be created with two volume knobs. The colour, bindings and inlays are fine features but I'd be unable to achieve my sound with that thing. I'm so very disappointed.

[/quote'] Remember when the electronic tuner came on the market. It made many bands sound a lot better. Whether the selftuning guitar will be the standard of the future is hard to guess at. I'm convinced it has come to stay. The obvious advantage is for the beginner who can concentrate on what really matters, the music, intead of spending endless hours. If my kid were serious about playing the guitar I'd shrug my shoulders and get one. Sadly enough, my neighbours daughter switched to drums because she didn't have the patience to tune a guitar by ear. But have a thing for red guitars though, he he.
Bluesburst Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Hey Morten Looks like we have more than a Reverse V in common!!! Love the red Hot Rod Deluxe, is that with the Celestion speaker? I have a tweed with the Jensen. I also see books in the shelf on WWII aircraft with a leaning to the Luftwaffe, another hobby of yours? I'm a propeller head when I'm not messing around with my guitars. All the best Martin
