charlie brown Posted June 1, 2011 Share Posted June 1, 2011 I've recently been playing both my Telecasters, and Les Pauls, more than ever. I'm thinking, right now, they just might be, the perfect match, for being complimentary, yet different enough, in tones to work well, with one another. I've tried this, within my band, recently...where if the other guitar player, is using his LP Custom, or other humbucking guitar (SG), then I use my Telecaster, for just that different tone/coloration. And, he will do the same, if I want/need to use my LP, for something. But, in all honesty, I think a Telecaster works well, with almost any other guitar combination. ne14t? Posted June 1, 2011 Share Posted June 1, 2011 I cant say its quite the same on the guitar front, but the band one of my buddies plays in uses a setup like this. He plays lead and uses a Schecter Omen Extreme 6 (bucker equipped) and the rhythm guitarist plays a Tele (not sure if its a Fender or not) and I can agree it really does add more color to the music. I found that the Tele complimented the music filling in the riffs with that nice single coil twangy goodness, not doggin humbuckers but I dont feel they can get the same high pitched harmonics as a Tele, I could be wrong though, it wouldnt be the first time...today! I dont know if they did this on purpose as my buddy has a Fender Tele but doesnt play it with that band. I will ask him tonight if this was the reason or not. CB Izzy and Slash played Tele and Les Paul and made some of the best music in rock history. I personally have never owned a Les Paul but i do now own a white Strat and used to own a Tele, (traded it for the strat) biggest mistake of my life. While i love Cobain and learning Nirvana on the Strat, i can definatively say the next tele i get you wont get it off me until im 6 feet under. Of course ill probably still buy the Les Paul first, either a Traditional or Studio, the tele can wait but ive been fan of both Tele and the LP for some time and i believe every guitarist should have 3 guitars in his arsenal, a Tele, a Les Paul, and a Hollowbody, the holy trinity. charlie brown Posted June 2, 2011 Author Share Posted June 2, 2011 Yeah, I love Semi-hollow body guitars, as well. They make a good match, with a Telecaster, also. I heard another combination, that a good buddy of mine, and his brother use. He uses a '65 Gretsch Country Gent, and his brother uses a Telecaster, or sometimes his Epi Sheraton. The Gent sounds great, in combination, with both of those, very different tones. But, there's just something about a Telecaster, and LP or at least a "Humbucker" equipped guitar, that sounds pretty...(here's that word, again)..."awesome!" ;>) CB Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

chase1410 Posted June 2, 2011 Share Posted June 2, 2011 Before I got my Tele, I don't know if I'd agree with you or not CB...but after having mine for a couple months now, it's just an incredible guitar...Completely different then my favorite Les Paul, and each excel exceedingly in there certain area's of expertise...So I'm with CB on this one, If I could only bring two guitars to a gig or tour, it would definitely be my LP and Tele.. What always amazes me is how each guitar makes me want to play something that the guitar tone just brings out of my memory. ShredAstaire Posted June 2, 2011 Share Posted June 2, 2011 For a combo, i like using my SG and my Les Paul...(I have them tuned to D Standard) I would use my Tele but i keep that one tuned to E Standard...the more i play it, the more i love it. While my LP gets plenty of attention from me, in a band setting I do find myself picking up my tele quite often to go along with my band's other guitarist who only uses an LP. And, I find that when playing along with the other guitarist, with his Les Paul, that I tend to use the middle, and middle-neck position, the most....unless I'm the one doing the solos, for that number. Then, it's usually the bridge, often with the tone control backed off, a bit, to "fatten" it up. It's a great tone/sound, either way. The Les Paul is full, creamy...the Tele, round and cutting. I play rhythm I was using a Standard LP Burstbucker pro's then cos I was too bright I changed to the 335 with 57's the lead was playing an LP Trad with 57's it was just a mess.
