Les Paul + Telecaster

I have recently discovered the best guitar combination for any band! The les paul and the telecaster! the two guitars are so different in tone and character, that they compliment eachother perfectly! any thoughts?

I would agree.. I run in my gig rig my Gibson Ebony SG Standard, my 2011 Gold Top Les Paul 60's Tribute & my 2010 Fender American Standard Stratocaster....great tonal mix that would satisfy any listening ear.

Depends what style you're playing. If you're playing high gain heavy rock, the fat humbucker tones make it difficult for the thinner single coils to be heard in a "live" mix in small venues. 2 Fenders leave more room for each other; otherwise, 2 Gibsons keep up with each other.

I used to be a strat player, when I joined a band with a guy with a Les Paul and a Mesa combo, a lot of my licks just got lost in the mix.

Yeah, when my band plays heavier songs, me and the other guitarist both use LP's. But I do love the full spectrum of sounds you get with a LP and Tele played together and we go that route a lot. I do have to boost my volume a little when switching to the Tele, though.

I started a similar thread, yesterday, in the lounge. They are great

complimentary guitars, for a lot of applications.

Agreed- both sound great, and have such different feel and tone to them. Anyone seen Mike Fuller's crazy 335 Stratelepaul? A great example that sometimes you can't have everything in one guitar...

To be fair though, if you say TELE+anything or LES PAUL+anything, it's a good recipe.

Mike Campbell and Tom Petty do this all them. When Tom is playing his Stratocaster, Mike is Playing his Les Paul.

Yes! Les Pauls are my favorite! Teles are my 2nd favorite.

Yes.

I would say that any Gibson with humbuckers and any good Fender with single coils (tele or strat) make a great combination.

It´s a shame because the another guitar player in my band just plays a SG so I can´t use my Les Paul as much as I would like (too heavy sound for several songs..) so I tend to play with my strat or my tellie..

Luckily I can choose!!

From what I've heard Jimmy Page page always used a tele in the studio, and obviously he always (almost always) had his standard round his neck on stage. Pretty good endoursement for the pair of them I'd say

Hello guys! The Les Paul is my absolute favorite, although all three guitars I own are very different - that's how I picked them. The FSR Tele is about to get a Baja-mod (4-way switch with out-of-phase push/pull pot).

The LP and Tele/Strat combination is pretty well ubiquitous

 

Other options could be an ES 330/Casino instead of a Fender

 

And those delightful Rics and Gretsch's(particularly with S/C's) to sparkle up the overall sound

Well I think I may have mentioned this once before (which R9 can confirm), but my next purchase will be a Tele. I think any Gibson humbucker and Fender single coil is a must have. A hollowbody completes it for all styles too.
