robberns Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Not sure if this has been covered.... I have a shiny new Chambered Reissue 1960 Les Paul that plays like butter. I changed the strings on it and now the retaining wire on the bridge buzzes/vibrates on certain notes. Anyone had this happen? I also have a '59 Historic Reissue which plays fine, no buzzing. Here is a shot of the '60 Chambered..... Thanks for any insight....

You might try raising the tail a little and pay attention to the string angle.
robberns Posted February 4, 2008 Author Posted February 4, 2008 Nope, checked that. Strings all clear the back of the bridge.
Raptor Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 I can't imagine the buzzing being that loud, does it come through the amp, or does it just annoy you? Have you changed string guages or brands when you changed strings? Sounds like there is a little less tension on a saddle (or couple) and the saddles are rattling. The wire shouldn't loosen unless you removed it or removed some saddles. If it doesn't come through the amp, or bug you too much, try to live with it until you change strings next time. If you changed guage or brands, go back to what you had before, and see if it goes away. You could also bend the wire a bit to put a bit more pressure on any saddles that you can pinpoint as vibrating, and if the wire is loose itself (loose within the bridge) then you can try bending where it inserts into the bridge or where it contacts the saddles to try and get a bit more 'tightness'. Did you adjust or move anything, like lower or raise the tailpiece or bridge when you change strings? Did you take all the strings off at once? A change in either could result in less string tension and might cause the vibration. Taking all the strings off can allow the tailpiece and/or bridge shifting slightly without you intentionally doing it.
rootbeer17 Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 I have a Black beauty les paul and the low e string buzzes even if i strum very softly. i even went in to get it setup ( its fairly new) and it still buzzes i got new strings and stuff its really drving me crazy.
Raptor Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Rootbeer, string buzz is not the same as the retaining wire on an ABR bridge. If it still buzzes after being set up, and you asked them to get rid of the buzz, then find a new shop that knows how to do a set up.
