Anyone recommend a good strap for Les Paul?

I did a good faith search effort but didn't find anything..

Can someone recommend a comfortable strap for the heavy LP? I've been using my "normal" guitar strap but it starts to hurt a bit pretty quickly. Does anyone use a fat bass strap to help spread the load?

Thanks

Planet Waves makes a couple of strap accessories that are supposed provide some releif. Never tried them myself so I don't know how well they work. I like my strap which is a soft leather type, about 3 inches wide.

Thanks all...

I appreciate the help.

I guess the first thing I can do is try my son's guitar hero strap.. I'll look into the strap locks.. and look at these suggestions.

Two words. Wide leather. Wide straps distribute the weight across your shoulder better and cut less into your shoulder. And leather easily molds to the curvature of your shoulder, but with some resistance so that not all the burden of the weight is on your should, some is distributed down the strap. And its worth it to pay $30-40 for a strap that will last you a lifetime. Mine is still trucking six years later and it looks like it did the day I bought it.

I have one of these

http://www.italiastraps.com/guitar-straps-uk.html

They used to be much cheaper... But man they are the best for heavy guitars...

These are also good.... I own 4 of these...

Both are designed to handle heavy guitars... The italias are more expensive but the 4" wide ones are the best for my custom... I don't feel the weight at all ever....

Funny... I proposed these Franklin straps on the epiphone forum and everyone dismissed as too expensive... I don't know.. 40 dollars for comfort is pretty damn good...

I have never had an issue with a guitar strap's comfort. I find the straps are always too short. I like the guitar to hang around my waste and not my chest..

Fender Patchwork Straps are nice and long, 74" and Dunlop D-38's are around 60". I play mine around my waist too, I'm 6'1" and they're plenty low enough for me, with a lot of extra room with the Fender straps.

I have Levi's suede straps on all but one of my guitars/basses, all of which weigh around 9-9-1/2 lb. The only exception is my Fender '51 P reissue, which has a Levi leather strap that's been on it for a couple of years.

I also use the leather loop type strap locks at the butt end of the instruments: I can loop the cord through it and keep it under control. At the neck, I use Schaller strap locks on all but my Sheraton II, which has the strap button on the back of the heel (a Schaller would stick into my gut).

I just picked up a Levi's Boot Leather 2 1/2 inch strap which has a boot leather face and glove leather padded back, very nice and comfortable. Built to last, but only expands to 53 inches. Expensive, but worth it. I didn't get it at GC, but here is a link where you can see it. I got the dark brown one and it looks really good with my LP Studio Worn Brown, perfect match.

+1 - I have that strap on my 10+ pound faded LP. It's quite comfy and reasonably priced
