brrobert
I just picked up a used Faded SG.... Its been a long time sine I've had humbuckers and I'm really liking it! Of course, the mind starts going and I wonder how I can improve it. What have any of you done to improve your budget SG's? I'm thinking I want a new bridge pu, at the very least..... Thanks for the input. Bob
rybass
Bigsby's are nice on them. If you have the faded brown I've seen them with parchement colored pg's that look real nice. I would def get a new bone nut cut for it, tone pros locking tailpeice and bridge and strap loks.
lpdeluxe
I'm considering getting a brown one to attach a Bigsby Palm Pedal to, if I ever get the palm pedal.... If I do, I plan to add chrome pickup covers and change out the pickguard and pickup screws to black so it'll look a little more integrated. WhiteRaven
I'd swap out the tuners for a nice set of Grovers, the pickups for your favorite aftermarket ones (I don't like the 490T/490R combo much, if you do that's fine), maybe some speed knobs, and some strap locks. brrobert
Thanks guys.... I bought a Duncan Seth Lover for the bridge. I think the neck pu sounds pretty good, but I got a cover for it. I'm giving SERIOUS thought to the Bigsby idea....
zombiewuff
As my other Gibson electrics have excellent humbuckers (57's in the 335, and BurstBucker Pro's in the LP), I elected to swap out the 490's for a set of P-94 single coils in my faded special. It now has a fantastic growl, but is very versatile. IMHO, it looks a lot better than with the uncovered HB's as well. I auditioned an SG Classic before buying, and found the neck profile on the faded suited me much better. This little sleeper is a great platform for mods. brrobert
I just got it back from the shop with the Seth Lover Duncan in the bridge. What an unbelievable pickup! I also had pickup covers installed. Makes a huge difference in appearance, for sure. Bob
