First birthday

Well, it was one year ago today that I brought my first Les Paul home, a Custom, and began my obsession with Gibson Les Pauls. It's been quite the year...a few more like this one and I'll be in the poor house!

I didn't tell my girlfriend that I bought it and kept it hidden in the back of the closet until her birthday, which was nearly a month later. So, for that entire time I would only play it when she was at work or out with her friends.

Rightfully so, this Custom's name is Mistress.

Her birthday gift was a digital camera and she absolutely loved it (bit of a camera freak). Afterwards, I told her I had something to tell her. (I've said this before, but what's the harm in repeating it?)

We were on the couch and I had the case off to the side, she thought it was my SG. I said "Honey, I figure the best time to tell you this is on your birthday...don't get upset, but I bought a guitar." She got pretty angry because I didn't discuss it with her before hand......part of my plan. ](*,) She wanted to see it; so, I got down on one knee and opened the case. She just shook her head. eusa_angel.gif

I pulled it out, but kept the headstock hidden from her line of sight. I played Here Comes The Bride, she chuckled, and I bent the last note, as I did the entire neck tilted upwards and that's when she saw a diamond ring dangling off one of the tuners....she wasn't so angry after that.

Happy first birthday, Mistress!

Tim,

that's really a lovely story about guitars and women...

could anyone ask more than this?

I was thinking to have my wife to read it (since she's

always worried about my GAS attacks), but the diamond ring

thing ... hmmmm, maybe not a good idea ... ](*,)

anyway...

happy birthday to Mistress (of Taboo? ... Plasmatics reminder...)!

HA!

Yes' date=' I would have still got the ring.

Keeping the guitar a secret was just the set up to get her angry before popping the question.

I like playing around with her emotions...default_eusa_wall.gif Get her all riled up and then make her the happiest girl on the planet!

I got a killer deal on the ring. Cost was about the same.

But I had it appraised by two separate jewelers afterwards and they both said around the $8,000 mark!

In fear of my personal safety, I cannot answer the third question...

Happy birthday Mistress!

Tim, thats a very cool story.

...that's a very cool guitar.

...this must have been the coolest year (how many lesters in one year? and all of them custom shops?)

...and ok, I'll say this just once and then maybe EDIT and delete it so that there's no proof I said this... you are very cool budy.

Blue you old fart' date=' happy 45th birthday! The Falls aren't that far...

If I were you, I'd be at the poker room at Casino Niagara today.

Gotta hit the casino on your birthday. Odds increase dramatically in your favor on a birthday...like 30%.

Happy birthday Mistress!

How many? Not enough! O:)

My LP Standard and SG Standard aren't CS guitars.

I love the SG, but I'm trying to sell it for a historic SG. It's listed locally.

If it doesn't sell, I'll just keep it and won't get the historic.

It's funny, I can't have enough Les Pauls, but one SG and one ES is all I want.

Since you asked...

9/26/2007 - LP Custom & Marshall JCM 2000.

10/5/2007 - SG Standard

10/25/2007 - LP Standard

11/29/2007 - ES-335

12/22/2007 - SG Special GOTW (sold it)

1/17/2008 - BFG (sold it)

5/10/2008 - R9

7/7/2008 - R8

9/17/2008 - R6

01/01/2011 - Strat...at this rate, anyways. Geez, it's taking forever!

So, seven current...10 including the Strat and the two I sold.

I also bought an Epi LP Jr. as a project guitar...so, actually 11 guitars then, if you count this.

I'll give you a running total, if you want...but I won't post it publicly.

Only for you, 'cause you're the Thundergod!

I also traded in my first SG Special that I bought in '05 when I bought the SG Standard.

Yeah, I'd say I've got enough now that I'm not actually G.A.S.'n for anything else.

Well, that's not entirely true. I do want a 2009 R9.

I'm not actually G.A.S.'n for it and am in no rush for it since I have a piddly 2007 R9 to hold me over. O:)

+1 on the Libras! I turn 45 in two weeks, so I'm right behind ya, Blue.

As for the original topic.... Tim's year of blitzkrieg Les Paul spending... wow! What a year. It's a shame you're not stimulating the US economy. You could be the answer to all of our problems! O:)
