Greg Grann Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Hello all. Does anyone know a safe way to remove the stenciled, painted-on Gibson logo from top of a Gibson hard shell case? Nothing against Gibson. Have proudly played them for 40 years. Just want an anonymous presentation. Thanks, Greg.
kubog Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Would´t be smarter to buy an aftermarket case? IMHO. I personally love tweed cases
Greg Grann Posted September 26, 2008 Author Posted September 26, 2008 Most things I've either done or want to do could be smarter. Those tweed cases are nice indeed. I have the original Custom case (which I have stored in the original Gibson shipping box, plus a beautiful red case that is so pretty that I can't take it outside without it wrapped in a Gator gig bag (crazy I know) and a nice late 60's case that I use for bring the LP into NYC. It's that 60's case that I'd like to draw a bit less attention to by removing the logo.
L5Larry Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Just buy an aftermarket case. You can get anything you want for about $60, tweed, black Tolex, brown Tolex. Some of them are as good, or better, than the stock Gibson cases anyway. If you really want a good case, I've got a Calzone road case I'll sell you for $200. You can drive your car over it and won't hurt your guitar. After enough time your case will end up looking like this anyway. (self editted)
deepblue Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Wont that stuff that removes gum and sticker residue work? Or perhaps just a couple of spritz passes with a can of black spray paint.
guitar_randy Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Put a sticker on it that says:"This is not a Gibson in here"
MI_Canuck Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Get a TKL - they make the OEM cases for Gibson (Gibson USA at least, not sure about Custom Shop) so should be a great fit... Used they can be easily found for about $50... Made in Canada too (not China) cheers
ChanMan Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 What have you tried? I typically start with something fairly harmless and work my way up.... soft cloth and warm water... then maybe add a touch of dish detergent.... then maybe some Windex, or rubbing alcohol.... then CLR... then sulfuric acid.... a bench grinder.... you know.... Hope this helps!
sloan999 Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 i rubbed / picked the silver logo of my case with my fingernail. Like a lottery ticket[ i was bored, and it worked ok. didn't rip or scratch. ]
