davidlessig
I just ordered a 59 vos that has a 58ish neck and was surprised at the weight - 8.7lbs. my 68 RI LPC weighs 11.2lbs and it has really great resonance. the 59 at 8.7 has a little bit of that balsa wood feel to it to me. At $5500 it wasn't exactly cheap. I was under the impression these guitars were not weight relieved in any way. I love the playability of the guitar but was wondering if it's possible to get one that weighs more than 10lbs???
Tim Plains
More than 10 lbs? Probably not. I think the typical range is 8.5 - 9.5 lbs...and 9.5 is heavy for a R9. You're right in that they are not weight-relieved. These guitars get the absolute best and lightest wood the Custom Shop has to offer. That's part of the reason you paid $5,500. Mine's even lighter at 8.2 lbs. Post some pictures. We all love new pictures.

deepblue
Im still looking for an accurate way to weigh mine. The digital fishing scale is way off.
bobv
Yeah, how are you guys weighing your axes? I really don't want to walk into the mail room at work and put it on the package scale.
davidlessig
I've never played a real 59. Anyone have an idea what their typical weight was? Just wondering.
davidlessig
My R9 is a 2006 model. Should the pickups be the burstbucker 1 and 2?
Tim Plains
I used a fish scale. I tested it for accuracy using a container filled to exactly 5 lbs. The scale showed 5 lbs. So, I'm pretty confident that the readings were accurate. The only problem is I returned that scale 'cause I had no further use for it...now what do I do? davidlessig, no clue...but I'm guessing around 9 lbs. saturn
Im still looking for an accurate way to weigh mine. The digital fishing scale is way off. Here's my scientific method. I have a digital bathroom scale. My guitar is too light to register on it, but I stand on it and weigh myself and then hold the guitar and see what the diference is! I came up with just about 10lbs for my Studio.
