BoyVader
I know I should post this in the Gibson USA section, but thought I would get a better quality answer from here... I got my SG out for the first time in a few weeks today and there is quite a bit of fret wear on the B and high E and it's started to give a little buzz on the high E when you play past the 12h fret.. It doesn't need a re fret (I don't think) but do they just grind the frets down a bit? Please tell me it's not painful doctor... Anyone had this done? Sorry for the "newbie" question... stein
Rest assured, it is quite common. Just ask how much for a "fret dress". You can get quite a few of them before you need new frets, and it ain't that much money. If you get a skilled guy doing it, it can even play better than what it was new (depending on what kind of job they did at the factory).

TommyK
Fret dressing does, in fact, grind the frets down, just with a properly shaped top.
Madman_Greg
If you have anyone in Oz that has one of these machines, you could also consider getting your guitar setup via this method including fret dress and nut http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PG4BOLlKOb4 Madman_Greg
BoyVader
Hey Madman_Greg, there is guitar shop just down the road form me with a plek machine...but a friend of mine, and great guitar teacher who has played with some pretty big names had his LP setup with it, and he said it is one of the worst setup's he has ever had! Go figure... I know a luthier that works for err.. humm ..gonna say the F word Fender here in Oz and he does a great job... Would rather give the work to a human as they need the money more...I'll let you know how it goes...
