Tim Plains Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Junkie, you're on fire today, aren't you!!
daveinspain Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 The only thing that worries me about Murphy aged guitars is, in 20 years when it really starts to age will all the fake weather cracking turn into the paint flaking and pealing off the guitar??? Just a thought
HeadCase Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 That headstock shot just made me ill. Is it just me?
Thundergod Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 That headstock shot just made me ill.Is it just me? you and me both man...
Tim Plains Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 That headstock shot just made me ill.Is it just me? The whole aged look made me ill' date=' not just the headstock. The only thing that worries me about Murphy aged guitars is' date=' in 20 years when it really starts to age will all the fake weather cracking turn into the paint flaking and pealing off the guitar???[/quote']Why should they care how bad it will look then when it looks like crap now? Guys want a 50s burst. They can't afford it and decide to ruin I mean relic a new LP. NEWSFLASH PEOPLE...it's not an old LP.
MikeRom Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 I am thinking I will piss off a few of you' date=' but wtf would someone spend so much damn money for a guitar that looks like that? Hell I would spend 75% of what that damn thing sold for and buy a brand new guitar that looks brand new, take the rest and buy something else. Really, that head stock looked like crap. Did yall notice the scratches and stuff in the back. Oh well I guess it takes all, I would have not purchased that thing, its like going to a new car lot and paying for a new car that looks like its been to hell and back (or like my son has been driving it). Here is another example of a guitar that should have never happened. Granted it was a killer AX and became the symbol of a Guitar player who is nothing less that remarkable. [/quote'] Some people have more money then sense.
RichCI Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Some people have more money then sense. In some cases, yes. In other cases, to them spending that amount of money is the way you or I would regard buying a a new set of tires. If you make $500k/year, dropping 25k on a guitar isn't that big of a deal.
Thundergod Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Guys want a 50s burst. They can't afford it and decide to ruin I mean relic a new LP. NEWSFLASH PEOPLE...it's not an old LP. Exactly... I dont know what they are thinking... but if I go nd ask them what year is it and they say "its a 2008" I will laugh my *** off in front of them.
Tim Plains Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 There was one of those locally. It sold for $18,000. OK, you know what...$18,000 is like 8 new Les Paul Standards or 6 '58 reissues.
Flight959 Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Some people have more money then sense. If certain individuals had common sense they'd be dangerous!
ckledzepplin Posted September 28, 2008 Author Posted September 28, 2008 One Standard is like two MIA Strats. that is the only thing i hate about being a gibson player, they're so damn expensive
geyser Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 hey guys, please calm down! I don't like relics even, but there are relics and RELICS I think EVH Frankenstein (even pricey as it is) or Rory Gallagher's Strato AND 50th Anniversary Les Paul Tom Murphy (I mean: TOM MURPHY) Aged stand on the latter category ... and I hope to show you some *proof* about it very soon ...
RichCI Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 that is the only thing i hate about being a gibson player' date=' they're so damn expensive[/quote'] I gotta say, I love my LP but I also love my 57 RI Strat equally as much. They're totally different animals but both are really great guitars that ring out loud and proud.
Thundergod Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 One Standard is like two MIA Strats. which in turn is like 4-6 squiers... and you know squiers are better than Gibsons... so is 1/12 Les Paul standard better than a whole Les Paul standard?
RichCI Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 which in turn is like 4-6 squiers... and you know squiers are better than Gibsons... so is 1/12 Les Paul standard better than a whole Les Paul standard? Now, now... IMO, a USA Strat is just as good as a USA (Gibson) Les Paul, just two very different guitars. I use both a Strat and a Les Paul with my band they covers everything I want to do. Sure, I *could* bring along my Tele and SG Junior if I wanted to get really picky, but the Strat and LP cover it all well enough. There are some songs we do that require the LP and some songs that require the Strat; I *could* do it all with just the Strat, but it wouldn't be the same; conversely, some of the songs MUST have a Strat and the LP wouldn't cut it no matter what (not bright enough).
Thundergod Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 I was actually joking... that said, right now Im liking teles better... I still love gibsons and wouldnt sell my st. faded... (I have a white studio that Im trying to sell )
NeoConMan Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 I thought the whole Tom Murphy aging thing was absurd several years ago, though I regard him as an expert. That kind of money for a guitar that looks like sh!t? No thanks. Now we have the idiots around the world destroying perfectly good guitars with their homemade "relics" for no reason. I don't get it.
stymye Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 it's all about instant gratification,,and showing off. I mean, no one needs the guitar to look old as far as being a good instrument . it's all about show and tell and some people can't wait for a guitar to age ,, they need it ...NOW ! and are willing to pay the price. I figure why not just buy used standard and age it yourself ..it would be a whole lot cheaper and most average club atendees don't know the difference in les pauls anyway.
