LP Custom Koa Top

A couple vendors have begun publishing pictures (of about six different serial numbers) of a Les Paul Custom with a Koa Top and mahogany body, MSRP ~ $7000 (MAP lower). To me this looks like some of the Custom Shop's best work in "exotic" body wood since the Oak. If the tone is there, I want to get one for the studio. (Let's see, a pound of flesh goes for...) Will the Custom Shop be putting details (esp. hardware) out to the website soon? (Please?) And how would I go about getting the use of a pic for my Gibson.com avatar? (I know how to make the avatar once I am allowed to use a picture)

The tone is there! Just look at all the acoustics made with koa tops. Your best bet is to contact a dealer (or several since you have already seen them at more than one place) that has one and ask about the specs and have them send you photos. Ask if you can use one of their photos as a avatar. You will probably not see anything on Gibson's web page as this is a very small and limited run. The run may even be limited to the dealers that ordered those guitars and not available to other dealers, and in that case Gibson usually will not post information. Another option for specs would be to get a serial number and call Customer Service have them run that serial number. The dealer "should" have the specs though. The one that I saw was the same specs as a reugluar Custom except the top was Koa. It may not be from the same run you are talking about though. You might try calling Scott Weinmann or Chris Swope at Guitarsale, 800-343-9795.

Thanks, CR9! You've found the right ones. I can tell from the pic/lighting/etc, without even looking inside the JPEG, that's the same run. MF, Music123, both had the SAME half-dozen serials. Hmmm...

Odd to have those knobs with the gold hardware?

Oh, and "message received" about the limited run. Like a GoTW, I amy have to just watch this one go by.

MF, Guitar Center, Music123, Woodwind & Brasswind, Guitarsale, Private Reserve, (did I forget some?) are all the same company and sell the same inventory. the prices advertised on line ar the lowest that Gibson will allow them to print. You may get a different price from each of those places on the same guitar., but your best bet to get the lowest price is to call and talk to them. Try calling Scott Weinmann or Chris Swope at Guitarsale, 800-343-9795 and give them the serial number or item number of the one you are looking at and they can give you the specs of it and a good price.

Wow. Deeper than I imagined, and I'm no spring chicken. I shall follow up as you suggest. (and I understand MSRP, MAP, and the old f2f deal) THANKS!
