I also gig with my PR4-E when we cover Wish You Were Here. I play the solo at the beginning of the song and then switch to bass before the rest of the song kicks in. bloozeguy Posted June 22, 2011 Share Posted June 22, 2011 Another one here! AJ500RC 12-fret, alternating with a steel-bodied Dobro (that is, a Dobro-brand dobro). The former purchased in '07 from The String Shoppe in Columbus, OH; the latter purchased new in '73--looks like hell now, so I get a lot of q.'s: "Hey, is that one of the old ones?" Well, sorta. Back to the Epi: with an acoustic blues/jug/string band, mostly finger-picking, some flatpicking, with a mandolin/fiddle guy and a washtub bass/jug guy. It replaced a Gibson LGO which had a nice soound for my solo gigs, but not enough firepower for playing with the band. We usually mic, but when I plug in, I have a cheapie Dean Markley soundhole pickup which does just fine. Also use both axes on solo gigs. Never thought I'd use a dreadnought-sized guitar, but this 'un sounded so good and played so easily that I had to have it! It's my GFL (Guitar For Life)! bonzoboy Posted June 22, 2011 Share Posted June 22, 2011 When I do get out gigging again my Epis will be a large part of my onstage arsenal as I intend on getting another 60s/British Invasion Tribute band going and there will be at least one set of Beatles only material when my '65 Casino would no doubt be indispensible as too my EJ-160-E John Lennon and my Les Paul Trad. Pro which with its PAF tone would be great for songs like While My Guitar Gently Weeps and my Firebird V although not an instrument that was used by the Beatles,mine sounds identical to the S.G. George used on Revolver and songs like Day Tripper and Paperback Writer of course my G-400 Custom comes close the Firebird nails the tone spot on. So with my trusty Vox amps and my vintage Fender and Leslie I'll have the Beatle's bag of tricks covered,I'll just need my '65 Strat for Nowhere Man. If that's the case...i wouldn't be worried. I've seen major headliners and some smaller acts using epi acoustics (many using the john lennon model) for acoustic sets without issue. Many of the guys here playing pubs and smalls spaces etc will tell you there's not much concern for not using a gibby or something for an acoustic set. I think it's just a misconception that in order to play in front of people, you need top line gear. you can buy into gibson/fender marketing, or you can use your talent to make whatever instrument you're using sound great. look around youtube for your fav artists doing acoustic sets with lower-end models. I've heard amazing sounds come out of $600 guilds, $300 epis, and even seen an acoustic set by We Are Scientists (pretty well known indie band) where they used one of those old 50's stella plywood acoustics. if you're inquiry is more general to gigging with an epi, look no further than this: Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Not really a gig, but after my first year of real lessons and two years of playing, the music school is doing a concert for friends and family. We have the "fete de la musique" each year for the start of summer. I will be playing my DR500M N and the pieces I will be playing are Signe, Don't think Twice and a unnamed blues rag I got the net. Played in front of a real crowd of a hundred parents, kids, friends , my wife and two of my three children. It went great. What a buzz. I envy you guys who do it professionally or on a regular basis. Matt the Cat Posted July 7, 2011 Share Posted July 7, 2011 Hi I have gigged for quite some time now and have used 3 different Epiphones over the years. Started off with a late 90's EJ-200ce, then played the arse off a 2007 Hummingbird which was lovely and now I play a 2009 'Inspired by' 64 Texan which I absolutely love and have had loads of great comments about. Kinda wish I still had all 3, but space and funds only allow 1 at a time. Grab an Epi, get out there and rock! (Or something like that!)
